Don't forget the timing with the late 65' US Tour!

Agreed that the late 60's UK Decca Export Flowers (Mono & Stereo) sound excellent.
Not cheap to buy, tricky to locate but..... heavily satisfying to own and play!

Interesting to contemplate (transatlantic?) discussion between Andrew & Mick in regards the track selections given the constant stress of the court appearances on him and the bands growing feelings that he had totally deserted them at the time of the busts and fled, i believe fearing his own drug use may be brought to attention by the authorities.

So 'What to do' is far superior than 'Out Of Time?'

Bill said it was Mick and Keith but he didn't get the joke.

    What?

I was simply pointing out that what is an "unusual compilation" to one person may come off as "ill-conceived" to another.

  9. Lady Jane, a redundant inclusion and a bit more "baroque" sounding than the surrounding songs, still seems like a pretty good fit for some odd reason.

Was Flowers originally just a release on London Records? I saw some copies that had the UK Decca label on there, might be export releases?

UK Decca did press the LP for export purposes.
Just for one example EMI in Australia manufactured Decca records down under and issued Flowers in Mono & Stereo also.

Charlie Is My Darling is marvelous and the personalities of the Stones are portrayed indelibly. Watts and Wyman were the good rhythm section soldiers. Jagger was analytical, but likeable... Jones was analytical, but insufferable. And Richard was all music all the time, clearly the leader of the group. He didn't even submit to a one-on-one interview with the filmmakers. He had better things to do with his time.

At the time, I loved the cover. Then I saw the UK Aftermath cover, and realized that Flowers was just a bastardization of it, and have hated it ever since. London Records: too damned lazy to even get a new photo.

As above, Oldham designed the cover with Corporate Head, who did the art direction for Monterey Pop. I doubt London did anything but slap their logo on.

Not only that, some of the same repeated tracks on Flowers were repeated again on Through The Past Darkly less than 2 years later.

  16. Hey, they took some songs from it, why not borrow some of its artwork too.

Speaking of cover photos, interesting how they re-colored the images red and yellow-ish on Flowers, vs. the purple tint on the UK Aftermath. I'd love to see an unprocessed version of the UK Aftermath cover photo.

No worries. Its just that the overt sarcasm is
often a launch point for petty feuds. Happens all the time on threads here. I try to stop it before it starts...

I love Flowers and it works as more than a compilation of songs. It feels like an actual album to me.

  23. I've had this LP since I bought it new back in 1986:

Loved it then, love it now. Against all odds, a digitally remastered compilation album that I find indispensable. The sound-quality varies from song-to-song and the lightweight 100% virgin vinyl is dead-silent & flat as a pancake. What's not to like?

A shot from much later than June 1967. Looks more like late 1969.

Thanks, exactly what I was thinking.
