Tallest Musicians

From personal experience from meeting him last year, Danny Carey. Wiki says he’s 6’ 5’’. I would have thought he was taller.

Man Mick Fleetwood during those drugged feuled years would have been scary to encounter.

 

Pino Palladino has got to be "up there" with the tallest.....

 

What height is Ron Carter? He always looked like a very tall man...

Yes, you are absolutely correct.
Boy George would be another good example of someone who came out the other end seemingly unscathed.
There is no predicted or set pattern for these things.

 

Wayman Tisdale, the former NBA basketball player, became a jazz bass player and released eight albums. He was 6 feet, 9 inches.

 

So different that it's unlikely that anyone would mistake the meaning of 'tallest'. And as someone else has described, the Barrett / drugs history is largely based on myth. It's not that he didn't take drugs, or that they helped, it's just that over time, his mental health problems were later attributed to drugs alone.

 

Long John Baldry was 6' 7" tall.

 

I want to say Jonathan Edwards but I don't know how tall he is. I saw him a couple of times in small clubs and he seemed tall.

I think these threads are pretty cool - I am relatively tall, 6’4” is what I tell folks - actually 6’3 1/2” (at my doc appt last year), and I often feel like the tallest person in the room. Depending on shoes I guess if you got specific it would be 6’4” - 6’5”, a pair or two of my dress shoes have quite a heel.

I guess the psychology behind it being you only ever see musicians in pics or on tv, not necessarily in person, so we always think they are “larger” or “larger than life”. When often they are of normal height...

I always think about Josh Homme ... looks like a big guy (6’4”) and seems pretty strong I would want to be on his side of the argument, needless to say.

I’ve met Paul Gilbert (reported 6’4” seems close to me, can’t remember standing right next to him) but I can vouch after shaking his hands that the dude had some massive hands. Prolly helps him play like that too!

 

Danny Carey seems big too and if I recall one of the guys from Radiohead is 6’4” or taller. I saw Pino a few years back in concert with D’Angelo but don’t remember thinking he was too tall.

 

Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil is 6'4".

 

Little bit of googlin says Pino is 6’8”! He just kinda hung out at the back of the stage I guess - prolly never got a good look at him.

 

Randy Weston (jazz pianist) was 6' 8"

John Marshall (Metal Church guitarist and Metallica guitar tech who filled in for James) is 6' 7"

Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) is 6' 6"

Pete Seeger was 6' 3"

 

So that's where the low hanging jeans thing originated, who'd a thunk it.

 

Buckethead is 6' 6" though I'm not sure how much of that is the bucket...
