Cyclone is great because of the Klaus Kruger drumming, I often listen to this record back to back with New Values by Iggy Pop which was released soon after and Klaus also has a similar drum sound on that record.

Sorry, but You can’t hear much dynamics and EQ on your very low budget system.

A lot of people come on this forum to find the best sounding CDs , but they also have to understand that without a good system it’s useless… they’ll never hear the difference.

    Phaedra.

I was in seventh heaven with the Hades box outtakes.

And this is why people don’t like audiophiles.

I picked up both of these recently. I like all the music but, tbh, it all sounds like one long album to me. :)

The same thing could be said about a complete albums collection of The Ramones.

A tough call but Phaedra is really unique. Also Edgar Froese solo album Aqua is killer and a beautiful album cover! All four Pink years albums come in second.

  12. Acoustic Meditation for me. It's great to hear an electric guitar.

But if you don't like like audiophiles or don't really care about good recordings what the hell are you doing here ? At least don't formulate facts about masterings based on the experience of a low system , which could encourage people to think it's the way it should be.

You are correct. Please avoid the Virgin Years box sets. They sound horrible. Absolute audio turds.

Buy the older CD versions only.

Actually, if your audio playback system is not very good, please avoid listening to Tangerine Dream altogether. Since your playback equipment is lacking, you won’t get much out of it anyway.

Rubycon, or Zeit if your tastes run towards the bizarre

My favourite is Stratosfear, probably because it was the album that made me a fan, and ticked all the boxes for a Pink Floyd/Hawkwind fan. Those early albums are great and anything up to mid 1980s is worth a listen.

I cannot name a clear favourite. The magic is that their output is so diverse that it works for a wide range of moods.
And sometimes I really don't like album x today as it's an unbelievable bore or whatever, but next week it just blows me away.

Same here. TD is one of those acts where I couldn't pick a clear favourite. Even though those mags my dad used to read in the 80's always claimed "Stratosfear" was the album to get if one wanted just one Tangerine Dream album in their collection. Where it most likely would sit next to "Autobahn".

That's a good but difficult question. I have over 150 titles of TD (my favorite group). I think Tangram may be my all time favorite. At the very least it's my favorite Virgin era album.

I love Zeit but it's almost literally four side-long drones. Rubycon at least has some rhythmic sections, and recognizable melodies.
