Funny how some would rather buy a new phono preamp than go after those with a pair of wire snippers. Also could be why comparatively MC is "dull".

I’ll have to take your word for it, I’ve never had to resort to a blow up girl. I bow to your obvious experience in such matters:

I had an LVB for a few months, it compared favorably to a Hana ML in terms of treble and soundstage, with the added bass warmth of a typical MM, but a bit less even across the midrange, only really noticed in close comparison.

Another MC option is a VAS Ebony (or other VAS variation). You can read my thoughts here about the Ebony. I never tried it with a SUT, but I suspect it would elevate its performance further.

Upgrade MC cartridge under 1000$ from 2M Black

    Interesting, thanks.
At my age and with my listening space I will stick with the LVB. My tone arm is also better suited to it.

But, I fear I am getting too far from the OP’s question.

Well, it doesn't look very easy to gain access to the phono board, probably have to remove the main board above it, but I've never handled one so don't know for sure. Certainly not as trivial as popping the cover and snipping a couple caps :)

When you have the actual string quartet in your living room - and criticize their pace, rhythm, and sound stage.

You mean in the sense that the MM is much lower maintenance and doesn't give you any trouble?

That is one thing about this hobby.
The main activity is listening. Yes, the gear is part, but one does not have to spend $. Much of my SQ improvements came from learning:
Room arrangement, speaker location, cleaning lp's, etc, basically low cost stuff.

You can spend time, $ or both.
    People choose the weighting.

    Sure.
If you want to look at things that way.
And as an added bonus---MM is not "alive" like MC.
    You GOT it!

The audiophile law of going back to move forward applies to cartridges. listen to a good LOMC for a few months and put your trusty MM back in. A few songs in of your favorite record should make you gasp.

It is a shame that a system for a low output moving coil is relatively expensive compared to a moving magnet cartridge. Cartridge alone is min 500 or so if you choose very wisely, add in a good phono preamp, tools to dial in the alignment, VTA / VTF accurately and a turntable that allows such adjustments- compared to slapping on a $100 ortfon 2m red and your built in phono preamp.
Takes more of a financial commitment that not everyone makes a priority.

Doesn't need to cost a lot to do MC, see my post earlier.

Folks who run MM don’t dial in alignment or VTA and VTF? No wonder they’re so maligned.

Hehe, between that and the blowup girl analogy, think this thread may have passed the expire date :)

    Banter.
    It's all about the banter.
You can find so-called FACTS just about ANYWHERE.
But for good banter you gotta come to the Hoffman Forums!

Hmm, I have same table/cart, and a lehmann black cube. I know its got adjustable impedance but not capacitance and it’s a capacitance of 100pF. I’ll be honest, my knowledge of this is still quite limited. Would you have any suggestions or anyone know of a way to modify a phono stage capacitance?
