Has history already decided that these four bands (who have not released a record in 30 years) will still be popular in the year 2100?
Ok for the Beatles and Nirvana. Queen and the Police? Not on my watch! To be honest we have NO reason to predict anything. I mean, who would have thought 75 years ago that we'd all have something in our pocket that would enable us to listen to almost all music in the world and how it would change the way the music is marketed? So, I'll wait and see. And I really don't care what other people are listening to anyway. It'd be too depressing.
Beatles, Queen, Pink Floyd I think will last. Not sure about The Police. White reggae seems a bit naff! I can see Joy Division and The Smiths lasting too. They aren't getting any less popular. Rock from the Stones, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and Guns n' Roses. Rock may not be so popular at this moment but it's a major part of cultural history and people will always be interested in that. I think loads of rock and pop music will last that long. Soloists that will include Bowie, Bob Marley, some Elvis. Some rap will too, it's been such a dominant force for so long. Soul music too, Marvin, Stevie, Motown, Stax and Atlantic.
Oh God ….. So in 100 years when some kid is listening to the Beatles he’s going to think to himself, surely there must have been other bands around then as well ? 30 seconds later …. Hey ! These Rolling Stones guys are cool ! This crystal ball stuff is just dumb.
2100 that's a long way to go and none of us will be there. So we can say whatever we want. No risk that someone will double check our predictions. But I don't think that people will be aware of these bands. They will be long forgotten.
2100 is 76 years from now, 76 years ago was 1948. I think you'll find the major musical artists from 1948 haven't been "long forgotten". This whole discussion is inane though and Beato is a clickbait hack.
And the video is entitled “The 4 Bands That Will Still Be Played in 2100.” Complaining that Bob Dylan isn’t on the list is like complaining that The Sopranos didn’t win an Oscar.
These kinds of predictions are silly, just a way for people to aggrandize their personal preferences: Just you wait, history will validate my superior aesthetic taste! Hell, I really like the Police, but I strongly doubt that people will be celebrating their songs decades down the line.
He's a nice guy, but his videos are so loaded these days. I half expect him to turn up with all the clickbait stuff you get at the bottom of agenda driven current affairs websites. The Police? If ever there was a band that's falling from public conscience, it's them. Unless cod reggae by two English guys and an American will be a big deal in 2100.
All those for certain. Not sure that The Who are popular with young people now though. Queen are huge in the UK.
