My thoughts exactly. "Easy To Be Hard" is probably the best song from "Hair", and Three Dog Night's version is the best I have heard.

Three Dog Night was never my favourite band, but (A) I saw them live in 1975, (B) I took a girl on a first date to that concert and she eventually became my wife, and (C) our daughter gave birth to twins last year and named one child Eli!
Not sure Eli's Coming is my first go to song of theirs but I now smile when I hear it. I especially like The Show Must Go On, Liar, Pieces of April.

He's actually using the hi-hat pedal, opening and closing it on the backbeat. Incredible sense of rhythm.

Danny Hutton sang lead on "Liar", right? Which other ones did he sing lead?

do you know of another example of a drummer using this effect?

i recall many other attempts to match this up have not been remotely close to what he is doing here....

His replacements for TDN live shows just go with the most basic efforts on drums

A true TDN original that I've always liked along with "Fire Eater".

Even though I've had a TDN greatest hits since the 1980s, I'm listening to them on Spotify, and man, what a great group! So many great songs. And actually, the very first radio song I remember was Joy the World. I think I was in kindergarten when that song came out. ;)

Maybe not their best, but my favorite is "Heavy Church" from the album Naturally. Written by Alan O'day of "Undercover Angel" fame.

Can't think of any that use it like an accent to the degree he does. I would call it more of a jazz technique than rock/r&b. He employs it beautifully.

I guess I’m in a minority of one (haha) by liking The Show Must Go On. I have a soft spot for it because I heard it as a child on the radio and it just stuck- love that song!

The Family of Man, Out in the Country and The Show Must Go On, those three 3 songs alone are worth the price of all their records put together.

Lots of memorable songs but I guess I'll vote "Joy to the World" just because it's immediately recognizable and fun all around.[IMG]

Another vote for Never Been To Spain. Followed by Easy To Be Hard and Mama Told Me Not To Come. Such a talented group with so many great songs.
