Entertaining gothic supernatural thriller. It's rather clever taking some predictable elements and breathing new life into them. I felt it was strongly influenced by Jack Clayton's The innocents. Rebecca Hall is, as usual, beautiful and gives a terrific performance. Anyone else pick this up?
I rented this last night. Made the mistake of trying to watch it when I was very tired and missed a lot of what went on. The opening lines about the war, influenza, and ghosts and that opening seance scene were promising. I plan to view it again sometime soon. BTW, that seance just confirmed my views on the creepiness of the whole Victorian spiritualism thing, which may be exactly what the filmmakers intended . Better atmosphere than the recent Woman In Black.
It's an okay film. Really a mishmash of several movies. Kind of Sixth Sense, The Amazing Mr Blunden, The Orphanage as mentioned.
