Well, every vinyl pressing had EQ in it. It's the nature of mastering.

I don't think he meant the RIAA curve. I thought he meant additional EQ that wouldn't be undone by the playback system.

Well... back in the day, every sound engineer did that. Therefore the whole eternal question as to which country's pressing is better.

Er, wasn't The Basement Tapes not released until the mid-1970s?!

They didn't do it with classical or jazz.
And it was Eq distinct to each record. This is why they usually made a separate tape. With MFSL they put one Eq Curve on all the records. Not the same thing at all.

O.k. I was worried there for a second.

They all put one EQ curve on all those MFSL records. And the guy that made the decision had a bad cold and wasn't hearing too well due to blocked sinuses. I read it somewhere.

Back in the day EQ wasn't thrown on vinyl willy-nilly. Mastering Eq was a fine art. For example, the low end on a master tape might be giving a cutting engineer a big migraine. So he decides to lower the EQ : - 4 db @ 40 hz at Q of 1. He also notes that the album is bit drab. So the cutting engineer adds a little sparkle: + 3 @ 12 khz @ Q of 0.5. As was common back in 1976 the cutting engineer decided to lower the cloud:
    - 2 db @ 150 hz @ Q of 1. The consumer Hi-Fi sets tended to emphasize the cloud back them. I read it somewhere.

The skilled Eq we see applied here is not what you will find on the MFSL vitnl. But each to his/her own..

A lot of vinyl relases did. But, no, every vinyl release didn't. In fact the making of a vinyl master tape for cutting is a 1970's thing. For example, Bruce Springsteen insisted that they take his cassette master for NEBRASKA and cut it as is. No EQ and no compression. They were not happy about that. It took many attempts to cut the record.

Some Mothers feel that way about their mass murdering sons. "I don't care how many girls my baby Tommy killed, he is my son and I will always love him!" Yea, I hear ya. :goodie:

Ahh, correction.. I am on O.D.S.P. which is THE ONTARIO DISABILITY SUPPORT PROGRAM. It is a guaranteed income supplement. Welfare is for everyone else. I get all my drugs paid for by the government of Ontario as well as free dental. And a free pair of glases ($440)
And custom orthopedic inserts. ($600 a pair) every 3 years. As long as the Doctor says up the meds I can overdose as much as I want.

    Not kidding guys.... :p

Wow...I just had the big box of the "White Album in my hands, $205 and I put it back. ).

I was certainly tempted, but at the moment, I'm financially destitute and losing.
