    Seconded!

  2. How many collectors do you think will even break the seal? I'll bet half of the sets will be snapped up by the usual e-bay sellers, sit on them for a year or two, and then try to flog them for 5 grand each.

I wouldn't pay thirty dollars a disc for these if Elvis himself came back from the grave to deliver them.

Insane pricing - why not price this more reasonably, and hence encourage more sales so people can AFFORD them?! This just plays into the hands of internet piracy!

    Greedy bastards.

well not sure fools is the right word...many chose not to get the franklin mint box due to its unusual sequencing...

still its quite pricey...and wondering what besides the certificate makes it limited edition myself...

do they not reproduce the book for the cheaper edition?

will be interesting to see how this plays out and how quickly this website sells out of its 1000 copies....

  7. As far as I can tell, the 'rare' recordings are on discs 28, 29 and 30. Yet when added up, the number of songs on these three discs totals 84 tracks. As the set is advertised as including 103 rarities, does anyone know what the other rare 19 tracks are?

From what I can see masters released after Elvis' lifetime (e.g. "Danny", "My way") seem to be intermixed with the masters on the first 27 discs while the last 3 discs seem to contain alternate takes, live tracks, rehearsals and home recordings.

Betcha they'll release the "rarities" as a new 2-disc compilation soon after this goes out of print. Suckers...

If Sony can put out that Miles Davis (72?) disc set for around £150 there should be no reason why the standard release of this Elvis set can't come in around £100.

  17. Thanks Claus and thenexte. It will be interesting to see how they handle some of these tracks like "Dark Moon" which was edited on the FTD HOME RECORDINGS but unedited on A GOLDEN CELEBRATION.

I'm surprised the forum here hasn't tried to address this more. Seems important that a complete box is incomplete. Elvis experts: Why may these tracks have been omitted?

Mama is on disc 8. No sign of Let's Forget About The Stars.

The big problem that I have with both this box and the Franklin Mint set is with the '68 Comeback Special "studio" tracks (e.g. "Nothingville", "Let Yourself Go" etc--see page 248 of Jorgensen's book). They don't have the masters as separate tracks but rather as part of assembled "concert" medleys. Thus, the tracks are out of chronological order. For my personal collection made from the Franklin Mint set, I separated out each fragment as a separate track and put them in chronological order. It's a little jumpy, but it's historically accurate!

It's strange if it's not included and a mistake.

It's also strange why I Shall Be Released is included but not the rehearsal It's Diff'rent Now from 1973 and the version of I Love You Because found on the Elvis At Sun disc is not there either.
