I Think the announcement will be in June or July. The release will probably be in September or October again. Strange Days 50th was released in November iirc.
You're right, I just checked the release dates again as I assumed, the 50th editions would be released exactly 50 years later, but hat wasn't even the case for the first three albums: S/T: Jan 1967 / March 2017 Strange Days: Sep 1967 / Nov 2017 Waiting: July 1968 / Sept 2018
So it's a matter of patience. I read an interview with Robbie Krieger from last year in which it is mentioned there will be a soft parade anniversary edition https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/8473846/the-doors-spanish-caravan-rough-mix
Maybe the PBS tracks? I would hope some different outtakes but they don’t seem to want to release those... I’m not expecting much, the past 50th discs were a disappointment. I’m only waiting for LA Woman, if no box set of outtakes happen. I’m done buying Doors stuff.
"Mojo's Franks" seriously tho, looking forward to this. Hopefully some live stuff from that show with the horn section and Harvey Brooks, one cool bass playin' cat...
If TSP was the most difficult album to make in teh studio, then I would expect many outakes and early takes. BUt they need to put something really special to make me buy it. I already passed the first three anniversary editions.
Ive only a CD of greatest hits...last year got that "the singles" set w best of in quad on bluray...love it So just arrived today used a 6 CD 6 dvda perception box set w/o the box... Finally gonna dive into their albums in surround 5.1
I'm a big fan of the 5.1 presentations. Very real and in-person sounding. Also, if you haven't explored their music much beyond the hits, the original albums are going to be a super treat!!
After initially shrugging these sets off, because I have nearly every digital version available -- I now have all three anniversary editions as hi-res downloads -- and can't wait for the rest. They have become my go-to mastering, which I honestly did not expect to be the case at all. I don't think these albums have ever sounded better. Smooth, detailed, punchy and clear. I also love (and now prefer!!) the mono versions of the first two albums. I love mono, but I again was not expecting to be impressed, much less converted, by the Doors in mono. Mono Beatles, Mono Beach Boys -- yes... but not the Doors. I was wrong!
Netflix has yet another decent doc on The Doors I saw last night, "Strange Days". Some clever video editing depicting Morrison listening to reports of his own death on the radio while racing a muscle car. It got me thinking of outtakes. "Who Scared You" I think is from TSP sessions and wasn't released until '72's "Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine". This tune should've been a single but I guess it got brushed aside for the poppier tunes off the LP. It has a great chord structure and a great lead by Robby.
Yeah, the PBS tracks would be my guess as well. Hoping for some rough mixes or something along those lines (akin to the Waiting for the Sun 50th). My real dream is a "horns-free" version, but I don't think that's too likely.
Nah. That'll be during Other Voices/Full Circle 50th releases. Jim will take over for Manzarek on keys for the tour.
It was released as the B-side to "Wishful Sinful" in 1969. And IMO it should have replaced something like "Runnin' Blue" or "Do It".
I'd forgotten that. That single should've been reversed. Odd choice, but that's the beauty in the beast.
"Krieger says discussions have not begun yet for a 50th anniversary reissue of 1969's The Soft Parade, though he's certainly there will be one. More live tapes are also in and being added to the Doors' vault..." Maybe... CD1 - The Original Album mix (feat. bonus tracks of the original single mixes) CD2 - Stripped mix (no orchestration) and the complete PBS "Critique" show CD3 - "Rock Is Dead" sessions & outtakes (includ. "The Soft Parade" (40th Anniversary Stereo Remix with new intro, 9:41) CD4 - The Soft Parade Live (with both "Bright Midnight" and "Boot Yer Butt" quality recordings) A stand alone Blu-Ray disc release of "The Soft Parade" could also be released feat. - Ray Manzarek's original 1991 "The Soft Parade - A Retrospective" (48 mins) - PBS "Critique" show (42min) - The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, December 6, 1968 - Wild Child & Touch Me (7min) - Wild Child (Full Archive footage of the band in the studio, October 1968 - 5min) - Wild Child ("Dance On Fire" 1985 Promo Version with Awake intro and extended outro - 4min) - various interviews (John Densmore remembers The Doors appearance on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, 7min)
