If I ever open up a bakery I know what I’m gonna call it. Right next door to “A Pizza Place (or So It Looks from Space).”
Agree with the Terrapin suggestions so far. For later officially released versions 3/15/90 (Terrapin Station (virtually un)Limited) and 3/24/90 (Dozin’ at The Knick) are good ones. For Estimated, Dick’s Picks 10 and 18, Boston 5/7/77 and Cornell 5/8/77 jump to mind, but most versions from ‘77 and ‘78 are really strong.
Took a little looking since it is OOP and rather expensive, but I found a Lossless version of the entire release
You may have already noticed that the Playing In The Band which follows proves the old adage: The Grateful Dead: Melts In Your Mind, Not In Your Hand.
Two great sounding versions (official) of Estimated Prophet: 10 May 1978- New Haven (Dick's Picks #25) 15 September 1978- Egypt (Rockin' The Cradle)
7/5/78 from July 78 box Both the 11/2/77 & 11/5/77 from Dick’s 34 - the 11/2 version has an all-time out-jam 10/16/77 from Fall 77 RT 1.2 Bonus Disc
Right you are, young @warewolf95 You been sitting at home enjoying the fruits of your labors? Or are you GDTRFB?
18 December 1973- Curtis Hixon Convention Hall, Tampa. I simply love this Dark Star. Phil's crazed feedback/meltdown in the middle is superlative.
Been at home for 3 weeks - when we got home they sent drunkard that crashed his truck (who we rescued in Wyoming) out in OUR truck. They dont have another to put us in while hes out so we are stuck until he gets back in town. Im going to Florida on the 20th to see family though so we wont be back on the road at least until the 27th or so when i get back. A-holes totally shafted us on our paychecks too. Long story short we were both supposed to get $1900 or so. After BS deductions i was down to $600 Its been a beg steal and borrow month here...
Bummer about the $, bro. Lotta poor man got them Cumberland Blues, he can't win, for losing... Wishing you a joyful Yule and better days after the Solstice.
Okay, I'm currently listening to this... Grateful Dead 06-21-71 Hard To Handle (9:09) It is FanF***ntastic!!! I've not seen Jerry actually play before. He makes it look so bloody effortless! What the HELL is happening to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Now, I'm listening to this... Hard To Handle [Live at Fillmore East, New York City, April 1971] (9:59) Now, I am NOT anywhere near as trained as all you guys to notice the subtle differences between performances, but this one firstly is recorded a tad better I think. Also, the performance strikes me as a bit more 'polished' It doesn't seem to come across as quite as maybe 'inspired' as the other clip which had some kind of intangible 'Punch' to it that really grabbed me. I wonder if I am just imagining these differences...?
If it’s the Ladies & Gents version, this is a 16 track recording. The other is a 2-track reel-to-reel soundboard
I'm thinking that you might re-state this about 100 times or so over the next few months. Asking prices are, in many cases, stupidly greed-induced. After getting off the bus in 1992, I was fortunate to get back on in 2013 when prices were still reasonable on most stuff...and BTW, the 4/22/78 Sugar Mag is off the hook. Don't pay attention to set lists; it's all about the intensity at any given moment (or longer).
