Currently listening to DP Vol. 3 Pembroke Pines 1977-05-22 Supplication is not a song I've heard much, but this rendition is bloody amazing! Also, I notice that Sunrise is hardly ever performed. I'm guessing because of the female vocal...?
Now, is that nice... taking a candid picture of our dear Archtop when he is not aware. Even I have standards... ... way down here...
Hmmm... Slipknot is not a song I've listened to much, but I must admit that this one on DP 3 is quite good! I look forward to checking out the other two Archtop has mentioned as the 'best' if they sound better than this!
Donna wrote two songs for the Dead, "Sunrise" and "From the Heart Of Me," that they performed between '77 and February 1979 when she and Keith left the band.
I wonder why they left after only 2 years? I guess I'd better hurry up and finish the biographies of George and Edward so I can get started on the GD one!
This week's pick — #12 Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, 04/11/77 . . . 1977/2014 Rhino Records (2) – R2-541136
It was the first Dark Star that I "got", my gateway of sorts, and I've never yet heard one to quite match its perfection. And I've listened to all the usual suspects.
When was first she onstage all show? I recently checked out 5-25-77, and had to bail because she was doing songs that were always just the three guys. Blasphemy to me, even beyond the awful overmiking. I understand I'm pretty much alone in my sentiment that the original ragged but right harmonies were an integral part of what made the band great. I love Brent, but it still isn't the same without Phil doing the high harmony.
25 years ago.... Prob the best Scarlet>Fire I got to see(altho there were a few good ones!) this was actually a great run, imo. Great shows, my final stop at msg(haven't been back since) and a dylan guest spot...
Is the Jam on disc three of Dick's Picks Vol. 12 (6/26 and 6/28 1974) considered an official Dark Star? Weather Report Suite > Jam > U.S. Blues
For those on Amazon Music HD....here is a playlist of all the Dick's Picks series Dark Stars. https://music.amazon.com/user-playl...e7405sune?ref=dm_sh_327f-5139-d78e-9f17-845cd
If we could curtail referring to instrumental pieces of music such as Slipknot! as "songs," I'd very much appreciate it. I can't change the whole world, but I might be able to change my few friends here. Songs are sung. It's really that simple. If it ain't sung, it isn't a song. Please indulge me. Thanks in retrospect.
The Merriam-Webster word of the day is EXOTERIC 1 a : suitable to be imparted to the public b : belonging to the outer or less initiate circle 2 : relating to the outside : external May I request that we use this word today in our post. Thank you in advance for participating.
Works for me. Just lose the "song" word where (not) applicable. It's really the only exorteric way to convey what is meant. I'd opine that you are over complicating things. We live in an era where Dark Star is still always happening. Therefore, when Dark Star nearly happens, it must be happening. It's not more complicated than this. Please convince me that the no-lyric Dark Star--> Uncle (lyrics)--> Dark Star from 12/5/71 isn't Dark Star.
