I’ve been wondering what more they could possibly do on cd to commemorate E’72… I’d love it if they’d do another run of the concerts on cd, but that might be wishful thinking. I’ve picked up a couple of those 2nd hand, but most of them are awfully pricey. I’d imagine we will be a vinyl reissue of the compilation. I’d be cool if they did something with Ace & Garcia as well.
Oh yeah, forgot to mention the 50th Anniversary releases in the realm of "semi-scheduled" when I asked. Thanks for the input! Really I was wondering if there's a "season" to expect a big box or not. Scanning the release dates on Wikipedia shows a lot more releases per year than I realized! Looks like usually something big in autumn, but not always so, and sometimes smaller releases at other times too...
Indeed, only 3 of the 6 Cap shows have been released. 2/18 - American Beauty 50th 2/19 - Three From the Vault 2/20 2/21 - Workingman's Dead 50th 2/23 2/24
They didn’t do a Live/Dead 50th (already releasing 2/27-3/1/69), so they probably won’t do Europe 72. I agree with would be great if they did a 50th Garcia and Ace.
I would love a single LP release of all the bonus tracks from Garcia that were on the All Good Things box set. Not holding my breath for such a release, though.
Dave alluded to commemorating the 50th of Europe 72 in his last seaside chat thing, although what that entails remains to be seen.
28 June 1976- Auditorium Theater, Chicago. The only full performance of Happiness is Drumming, and song from the Diga Rhythm album that morphed into Fire on the Mountain. The Eyes of the World that opens the second set and precedes same is dazzling.
Apologize that this isn’t really related to any of the current discussions, but I just overheard my 4 year old son singing Uncle John’s Band while playing with building blocks. He’s getting most of the lyrics wrong, but he’s got the melody!
“Uncle John’s Band, running through the dust, don’t forget Uncle John Band, running through the dust” that’s all I noticed once I realized what he was doing. I told him I liked that song, he said “I’m starting to like it too even though it’s crazy.”
~ in all seriousness, I have been giving it a bit of thought - what might the Europe 72 50th look like. I'm thinking it might be some sort of box that collects the original triple album, plus Vol. 2 on vinyl record. Plus, I don't know if there were any rehearsals or soundchecks that were recorded, but that could make up the unreleased bonus material? Alternatively, I thought there might be another whole show released stand-alone, one of the final London shows perhaps? Or maybe that fireside streaming on Youtube over the holiday period suggests that all four of those London shows might get re-released together in a set.
How about another nice triple-LP reissue of the original (white vinyl, please!), plus Steppin’ Out on vinyl?
