I was hoping they would resolve Serena's baby story and then go directly to the sequel The Testaments for next season.

It was like delivering a baby already just getting this season shot. My guess is, no matter how much easier it is to get the next one done, I bet that's all we're gonna get.

(Yet Law & Order:SVU seems to go on, and on, and on... )

Yeah, Luke was being kind of dickish about putting his needs to use June to locate their daughter instead of focusing on her Gilead PTSD.

I enjoyed the first two seasons, the 3rd a bit less, and the 4th is so monotonous that I've lost all interest. I have 2 episodes left, and I hope something enlivens it. Well, I did like the confrontation between June and Serena in the 7th episode. It's hard to believe they are going to drag it out further in a 5th season. For me, it seems to be mainly a vanity project for Elisabeth Moss.

It's a beautifully shot series taken from so-so source material and poorly written for the screen. More often than not, my wife and I laugh out loud at how utterly ridiculous the show is, and how it tries so darn hard to be, "important, message programming".

Should have been a 4-6 hour miniseries.

Well, obviously we are in "breaking bad" territory, and have been for some time. The story has to be more important than the characters, who are already scarred from the experience. The story has no impact without consequences.

No, I haven't read the book, and aren't considering it at least until the final season plays out. I might start reading Expanse novels in the near future, I dunno. I think I was perhaps the last human on earth that was relatively satisfied with Game Of Thrones all the way to the end (yes, even the structure of the finale! So suck it!).

When you invest yourself into a series, whether it's flawed or not, you are simply gonna have to get used to the idea that, you have to give the showrunners the benefit of the doubt. Because judge it or not, you're not gonna win if you're just an audience member. They're giving you what they've got to work with, not what you expect out of them. If you get let down at the end, you can gnash your teeth then...you'll still have them.

Well I'll be...I thought there were only 9 episodes! OK, the 10th one was way better than the others, but not enough to salvage the entire season.

S4 just started a couple of weeks ago in the UK...I liked ep1 a lot, but found ep2 very dull, and ep3 held my interest well enough. I have read spoilers for some things that happen this series and don't honestly know how much farther they can go. S5 really needs to be the last IMO. I always find that each season has maybe 6 fantastic episodes and 7 awful ones. I want to do a 'mix tape' of all the good bits and will probably, when all is told, have a rocking 12 part series LOL

You might as well wait until the final episode and pick up watching there. Nothing happens from where you're at until the end. Unless you're really into minute long close-ups of June staring at the camera this season is mostly a waste of time.

I believe that all series television, as with film, still requires an engagement of the viewer, to make or break the experience. By that I mean, sure, the showrunner can lay out the whole story for you, and shoot it in the manner he hopefully envisioned. But, the viewer still has to ponder the ethics, the motivations and the situations in his head, "making up" the parts of the narrative that there isn't time in the pacing to make room for. I can't watch every character with a mind for deciding what they're thinking, and whether they're actually bringing that performance to the production. But, I can take a side trip in my mind, asking what this action or that situation means for what's going on all over the world, or just over the next hill.

In a teleplay more than cinema, small, tight scenes often have to stand-in for a much larger narrative they can't afford to put onto the screen. You have to see four faces stuck into the camera lens, and imagine the mob behind them. A two-character story arc has to represent this sort of dynamic happening all across the country. A spinning-newspaper-headline montage has to propel the story sometimes days into the narrative, to get you to the point where they can show you the results rather than the buildup.

So, when I watch a show that's trying to tell you a much larger story, I like being left with my own thoughts, asking questions in my head I don't expect immediate, satisfying answers to, laid out in front of me.

In many ways, they all do. Hell, I watched Summer Of Soul on Hulu the other day, and a much richer experience occurred in my head, than even the unexpectedly-rich buffet on-screen.

When I watch series television these days, I take what the showrunner is giving me, is capable of giving me, and is fortunate enough to give me with the benefit of the doubt...and, add my own experiences to that as well.

Add water; makes its' own gravy.

I just finished season 4. It’s much easier without commercials.

I tried to describe the show to my 18 year old son. We both read the source novel and I have read the Testaments. Without seeing the show he described it as, “Fan Fiction.” That works for me.

I just finished watching the 4th season and I've avoided this thread until now. I agree with a lot of the comments here - I felt like I was just watching it because I'm 3 seasons invested and I used to really be into it. The lack of internal logic and consistency, particularly with Nick, who apparently has been a double agent in business for himself for years without making much of an effort to hide it yet never suffers any consequence or even a raised eyebrow, is a real turn off. The last really good episode, IMO, was the Aunt Lydia back story, and that was more than a season ago. The final events of season 4 didn't make a whole lot of sense - again, Nick does whatever Nick wants, somehow, despite the huge price that was paid for the asset he brought home.

I loved this show but watched Episode 1 of the new season and decided to give up. It's just like torture porn, how much humiliation they can subject the poor women and girls to. It just got very depressing.

And I got the sense they were stretching it out too much (how many times does she need to escape).

Series finished in the U.K. last night. It is a bit drawn out. I need to read the Testaments as it seems it isn’t a spoiler for this show. It is now on a full blown thriller / revenge trajectory. I will watch the next series hoping they can keep control and don’t go crazy.
