unfortunately, it is very skimpy on the text. hardly anything about the early years. it is mostly an overview of all the era's following that.

there is a big debate about whether the early league (with the heaven 17 members) is being whitewashed to disregard the early works on
    facebook, and the league forums.

well, despite the issues, and criticisms of the boxset.

virgin, did send out replacement booklets and tracklisting sheet.

got mine today (in US), so now i have an extra booklet, which
    i gave to my brother.

Is it a good compilation to buy for a beginner?

For anyone in the UK looking for the vinyl at a reasonable price - I popped into my local HMV (Worthing) for a browse around and saw that they had this less than half price at £39.99. So I bought it.

there have been some price fluctations on the boxset, some at half the original price, not sure if that was instore only..

but people might want to keep checking..

One small nitpick though, even though they bothered to reprint the booklet, and the tracklisting sheet, and send out replacements,
    they still missed this:

BBC live tracks - Don't you want me baby? what they heck? somebody missed that...

13 tracks. Good mastering, turn up the volume indeed. The Human League in the eighties had hit after hit then nada. Phil Oakey the uks Jim Morrison in 1980s, he went bald fat and hits dried up.

I finally went for this deluxe set at £39 thanx to an SDE heads-up.
This week's box set and reissue deals

Patience is a virtue. I only had to hang on for 11 months, I knew it had to come down eventually!
I'm really looking forward to hearing the early version of Marianne. I love the early stuff and I distinctly remember the buzz created following the release of Empire State Human and the Holiday '80 ep and their appearance on TOTP doing Gary Glitter's Rock & Roll. It's still fantastic. I love that clip. I still really like Martyn Ware's proper-beardy shirt and tie 70s haircut computer programmer look. Marianne still gives me a real shiver and takes me right back to 1980.
Coincidentally I was on holiday that year when they were getting hotter than the summer in Selsey Bill. I bought Empire State Human with the cool picture sleeve there.

'Empire State Human' really was the finest thing they ever released. Never tire of it.
