(CD Epic Sony Music Japan "Jazz Collection 1000" SICP-4029) 2014 .... recorded July 17th + 18th, 1956 @ New York .... Hank Mobley (ts) + Donald Byrd or Joe Gordon (tp) + Horace Silver (p) + Doug Watkins (b) + Kenny Clarke or Art Taylor (dr) .... unstoppable Hank Mobley is heading the hunt for solid gold .... wonderful music indeed ....
(CD Columbia Sony Music "Jazz Collection 1000" SICJ 104) 2015 .... recorded March 1st, 1961 @ Radio Recorders Annex, Los Angeles .... Duke Ellington (p) + Aaron Bell or Jimmy Woode (b) + Sam Woodyard (dr) .... for me a supplementary vessel to "Money Jungle" ..... Duke Ellington`s ecclectic pianism definitely shines brightly .... desert island music ....
A great artist I can hear at any time is Mr. Zoot Sims. Here we have Zoot Sims with a european rhythm section and Jon Eardley on trumpet. Jon Eardley had emigrated to Germany and was for a long time member in the trumpet section of the WDR big band from Cologne. Label is ROYAL LD-4001 "Zoot Sims In Paris 1956" Musicians: Zoot Sims (ts) / Jon Eardley (tp) / Henri Renaud (p) / Eddie De Haas (b) / Charles Saudrais (dr) Its a very short Lp - 2 trackls on each side and a total of 31 min.

(CD SteepleChase Think! Records Japan "45 Anniversary Collection" THCD-466) 2017 .... recorded April 18th, 1975 @ Trixi Ton Studio Munich Germany .... Clifford Jordan (ts) + Cedar Walton (p) + Sam Jones (b) + Billy Higgins (dr) .... continually underrated tenorsax ace Clifford Jordan and the "Magic Triangle" aka Cedar Walton Trio formed a match made in heaven and their releases for SteepleChase (and Muse) in the 70`s are uniformly superb .... outstanding transfer by this Think! Records Japan reissue from 2017 - but above all this is about the singular music.....

Concluding my listen session with the Lee Konitz Milestone box. LIVE-LEE - LEE KONITZ WITH ALAN BROADBENT (Milestone) CD IN DUO PERFORMANCES 'LIVE' AT THE JAZZ BAKERY, LOS ANGELES (2000) [followed by] MORE LIVE-LEE - LEE KONITZ WITH ALAN BROADBENT (Milestone) CD IN DUO PERFORMANCES 'LIVE' AT THE JAZZ BAKERY, LOS ANGELES (2000) This is the type of music that seems to have fallen between the cracks. That's to bad, for these recordings deserve to be heard by many more people. I particularly like the 2nd disc but both these albums are two genuinely fine duo sessions played by two remarkable musicians. "The pianist is in titanic form throughout these performances" -The Penguin Guide To Jazz
Every couple of years or so I seem to come up with a little music buying project to expand my library. I had not bought very many new titles of "classic jazz" (for me 1955 - 1969) in the past few years. I have now identified over 100 titles I'd like to add. And away I go. I'll see how long this takes.
More Zoot Sims. This time also on the soprano sax. "Zoot At Ease " - Zoot Sims Quartet - Famous Door HL-2000 Stereo featuring Zoot Sims (ts,ss) / Hank Jones (p) / Milt Hinton (b) / Louis Bellson & Grady Tate alternating on (dr) Recording engineer: Richard Blakin - date May 30 + August 9, 1973
One of my favorite West Coast pianists - the most swinging Pete Jolly on Äva A-22 Audio enginees: "Bones" Howe - recorded November 1962 & January 1963
