This is some great music. Dreamy, spacey, and classically influenced, even by the usual ECM standards. I enjoy the piano of Florian Weber as much as the trumpet playing of Markus. I'm a fan of Markus, not so much of his father Karlheinz Stockhausen, but am not very familiar with Florian Weber's work. I'd love to hear recommendations from anyone familiar.
Happy birthday to jazz musician and composer, Sam Rivers — born September 25, 1923. I dug into my stash of Cadet Records LPs this afternoon and pulled out Brother Jack McDuff "Check This Out". Things are going along as you'd expect until the 3rd song on Side A when Richard Davis picks up the Bass and Vinnie Corrao gets his wah pedal out and goes to town on the McDuff-penned "Soul Yodel". Overall an enjoyable funky soul jazz session typical for 1972 with nice conga work from Willie Colon.

How about a happy birthday for the incomparable jazz bass legend Dave Holland, who turns 74 today. Just looking at his credits-Miles Davis during his fusion period (including Bitches Brew, one of my favorite albums of all time), Derek Bailey, Chick Corea, Anthony Braxton, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Bill Frisell, and then his own solo work. Countless jazz greats have looked to Holland to enrich their music as they seek to push the boundaries of what jazz could be. Be it on his trusty upright or this electric bass thing, Holland can almost instantly nail the feel, no matter how unsual it may seem, and ground a piece without weighing it down. His insight is second to none, his track record marvelous, here is to Dave Holland, may he continue enriching us with his music.
One year later... I have been thinking about purchasing this MOV version. How does it sound? Thanks in advance.
How time flies! MOV "Mwandishi"...this is a great MOV title and the sound on it is really good! Easily recommended (and what an awesome record). I did get the MOV of "Fat Albert" as well and the sound on that version is not very good and would stay away from it.
