I saw The Front Runner this afternoon. I expcted to like it a lot, but I thought it was very flat in tone. So flat that I dozed off for a bit. I can’t say there was anything particularly wrong with it. The actors were all good in their roles, it was just so very, very flat. No highs and no lows.
A Star is Born. Maybe I'm simple-minded or just too easily impressed, but I thought it was fantastic and got really into it. It does have 8 stars on IMDB.
Michele Yeoh is such a great actress, she took what might have been a cliche'd "dragon lady" role and turned it into something far more complex. The mahjong game was apparently deeply symbolic for those who know it. The symbolism of Crazy Rich Asians’ pivotal mahjong scene, explained
Green Book. I thought it was wonderful. Viggo Mortensen, especially, did a fabulous job. Hilariously funny at times, but very poignant as well. An interesting story of friendship between two people who could not have been more different.
Widows. Saw last night and have to admit I left theater disappointed. Viola Davis easily best thing about it. Some plot holes I had a problem with and screenplay hates men. Not surprising that it was co-written by Gillian Flynn, which I was unaware of before I saw it. Might not be worthy of all the praise.
Instant Family. Very, very good movie. The marketing is misleading. It is not a slapstick comedy a la Daddy's Home. It is a comedy but also a very touching and emotional film.
Saw Halloween while on vacation in Portland Maine last month. Was hoping it would be on the level of the first movie - a bit of a disappointment.
The last film I saw in a cinema was The Nun, a couple of months ago. Wasn't very good at all. I was the only person in the theatre watching, at that screening.
I just saw Instant Family and very much enjoyed it. It's funny but it's not the out-and-out comedy that the trailer made it appear to be. Childless couple fosters three children - a 15 year old, a 10 year old and a 5 year old. It's a good family movie.
I finally saw Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, yesterday at an early afternoon 3D showing. I definitely think the 3D does add a lot of visual dimension and up's the appreciation of the movie. I believe that it did effectively carry the franchise forward and set up for the next film. It was good to see the character's from the first film reunited. The new character's are excellent in their rolls. I really don't see why people who gave the first film a fairly high approval rating, such a low approval rating with this one? I had no issues with the film.
I got a VHS tape the other day of EXIT WOUNDS (2001) and it was recorded IN A MOVIE THEATER!! People were laughing all thru it,some got up and you could see thier shadow on the screen..... It was interesting..
Anyone seen The Favourite yet—the one with Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz? They had a piece about it on the Friday morning TV news, suggesting it was opening this weekend, but I can’t find it anywhere near me. Great reviews—94% RT score.
