Kominsky Method-Netflix-pretty good. actors are the draw. look forward to next series A Very British Scandal-Netflix-not my cup but wife is big anglophile and loves Hugh Grant. it was pretty good and i learned a couple of things Counterpart-Starz-enjoying this very much. JK Simmons is excellent. without revealing spoilers, it's a trippy sci-fi/spy thriller that's unlike much i have seen recently. only 4 ep in on sea 1 so more to see.
I need to expand upon this, because I have continued watching it, and it has gotten progressively more outlandish, funny, and most of all, explicitly graphic. I'd start a thread on it, but I highly doubt it would get much notice. Cringe comedy has become quite popular in recent years, with shows like The Office, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, etc. really championing the form. Sally4Ever, however, is in a class by itself. Some of the scenes go on interminably, and apparently many of these scenes are improvised, which is amazing in itself. It also features the most spectacularly milquetoast-y character of all time in Sally, played with brilliant restraint and heartbreaking angst by Catherine Shepherd. The limits this woman endures to avoid conflict are superhuman, and, frankly, very hard to stomach at times. The other protagonist is played by the multi-talented Julia Davis, the creator of the show, and the creator of possibly the most sociopathic character in a comedy we've seen in a very long time. And then there are the various set pieces that push the boundaries of what can be shown on TV to the limit and beyond. I'm not going to detail them here, but suffice to say that the show's TV-MA rating is woefully inadequate. These scenes are indeed shocking, and are in such jarring contrast to the overall calm British demeanor of the show (truly-some of the dialogue is so colloquial and casually delivered you really need the captions on to follow it all) that you wonder if HBO, one of the co-producers of the show, had them inserted just to keep the American audience interested. Anyway, I don't know if I'm proud I stuck with it, or just a glutton for punishment, but it's definitely one of the most unique shows on right now, and the finale is on tonight. (thank goodness for British 7 episode seasons).
I binge watched The Last Man on Earth for the past three nights. It had really funny moments and I enjoyed it, but the the main character (Tandy) got really, really annoying. I needed the week long breaks to tolerate him. ha Boom.
Same here except I used to watch it a lot. Some of them tonight I never saw, but I remember some. I still love how every time someone mentions something nasty or bad Lenny & Squiggy walk in! There was an album by them if anyone is curious, billed as Lenny & the Squigtones, and I believe it has the first appearance of one Nigel Tufnel! Bloke with the Les Paul Gibson at back...
The Kominsky Method with Michael Douglas, Alan Arkin and Nancy Travis. All excellent actors. I enjoyed it.
