Yes, not only because it pleased the audience they were relating to, and helped that audience see what the original had to say...but over the years it has grown in credibility for people who even appreciate The Beatles above all else. I would put New Grass Revival's cover of "I've Just Seen A Face" for the same reason: it opened a new audience to hear what they would have heard when the original group did it...yet, it was "the same" approach, from a different style of performer.
