Jacqui Naylor does "Santa Baby" as if it was an outtake from the Led Zeppelin album Houses of the Holy:

I've always thought Lemonheads had a lot of fun with Mrs. Robinson. So to speak.

I've posted this in similar (though not identical) threads, but Alanis Morissette turning the ridiculous Black Eyed Peas hit "My Humps" into a piano ballad was wonderful:

How about re-inventing one of the greatest dancefloor hits of the 1980s into an acoustic guitar ballad? Here's "Bizarre Love Triangle" by Frente!

The Troggs - "Good Vibrations" was unexpected...especially in 1975:

Yes, not only because it pleased the audience they were relating to, and helped that audience see what the original had to say...but over the years it has grown in credibility for people who even appreciate The Beatles above all else.

I would put New Grass Revival's cover of "I've Just Seen A Face" for the same reason: it opened a new audience to hear what they would have heard when the original group did it...yet, it was "the same" approach, from a different style of performer.

Leon Russel's Masquerade was covered by Helen Reddy, then the Carpenters. But it didn't get its definitive reading until George Benson played it on his biggest album, Breezin'.

Kind of surprised no one has mentioned Jimi Hendrix’s version of The Star Spangled Banner yet.
