My ex-girlfriend hated one of my faves, Richard Thompson.

She found him too depressing, if I recall.

Television's Marquee Moon. I have a near religious experience most times I play it but it can illicit indifferent bemusement from others in the home.

Yep - my wife hates Rush - even though I tell here - man 3 musicians making all that - they are amazingly talented.

I have offered to show her the video of them playing Xanadu live from Exit Stage Left, but she has no interest in changing her life.

Currently, the Mette Henriette album on ECM, especially disc 2. Also the Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Van Morrison, Miles Davis etc etc!

  8. Most of what I listen to, but my wife has a special aversion for my avatar.

Some people just can't appreciate great music. :D

My wife and I share pretty identical musical tastes, but for some reason she does NOT connect with this album. I have always had a soft spot for it, but don't listen very often for obvious reasons.

When my wife and I first started dating in 2007, I made her two CD’s sampling everything I was listening to regularly at the time. She liked 40 or so out of the 45 songs. The one she really hated was “We Sell Soul” by the Spades:

I get that the shouting vocals on that one really aren’t for everybody. She also strongly dislikes Dire Straits, which surprised me. I think there’s other music I listen to that’s a lot more difficult or has much narrower appeal than theirs.

I used to date a girl who made fun of me for listening to Everything But the Girl’s ‘Acoustic’ album. Meanwhile, she loved Corey Hart — in 2003 — and thought Kenny Loggins was the world’s most brilliant songwriting genius. Yes, seriously. (And somehow her taste in music was just about the least terrible thing about her, but that’s another story.)

My wife will happily listen to most anything. She enjoys, outside of the "usual" pop/rock, to varying degree, my jazz, prog and krautrock records but she cannot, cannot, can not abide Captain Beefheart, and to a lesser extent Tom Waits. If I put Trout Mask Replica, Lick My Decals Off, Baby or anything from Swordfishtrobmones onwards she looks at me with utter despair, shakes her head and then leaves the room. She thinks I'm crazy for liking that stuff

my wife of nearly 30 years of marriage is pretty cool about my music tastes, said on more than one occasion ''it's all part of her rock'n'roll education.
I still get a buzz coming home and she's playing something I haven't played for ages, or informed me of a gig come up and she's just booked tickets.
The only gripe I ever had in the early days was how she held lp's and how she put them back in their sleeves,
but we sorted that out and hasn't been a problem since.

A previous Girl friend on the other hand, hated Jon Anderson's voice, and I didn't care as much as she did for Bowie,
so the relationship ended pretty quickly after moving in together.

    One?!

I've got hours of Frank Zappa, King Crimson, Miles Davis, Oingo Boingo, Faith No More, and Fishbone that my wife cannot stand. And this woman likes Roger Waters' Radio KAOS and most of Rush's catalog.

  20. Well...

Jill doesn't like my classical music.

Ashley can't stand when I play The Doors.

Erica can only listen to one or two Prince songs before she asks to hear something else.

And my wife can't tolerate the other three chicks.

My girlfriend absolutely LOATHES when I play 80s metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, etc... She gets up and leaves the room.

Actually, on second thought, I'll keep a copy of Among the Living nearby ;)

Why? Because I am an idiot.

Yeah. What the hell is that about?

My wife likes Neil, for the most part, but she can't stand Be the Rain. (She basically heckles whenever I play the video of the live version.)
