    Holy Smokes!

The Nilsson website is announcing that BMG Special Products will release "The Point!" on DVD and VHS on August 19, 2003. The DVD will feature Dolby 5.1 audio.

Guess I now own another "priceless" laserdisc that will soon be "worthless". ;)

I wonder whose narration track they will use?
I hope they don't screw up the music............:sigh:

     :agree:  :goodie:

Can you tell I'm happy about this?

It would be nice if they had separate audio programs with a choice of narrators, but I doubt that's going to happen.

Apparently there were four different narration tracks. The original ABC TV broadcast had Dustin Hoffman doing the narration. Apparently due to a contractual dispute, a later broadcast featured someone named Alan Barzman's substitute narration. A later Disney Channel broadcast had Alan Thicke doing the honors. Probably the most well-known version, the home video release, had narration by Ringo Starr.

It would be cool to have the Dustin Hoffman version. That is the one I saw on ABC when I was a freshman in college.

But you are right, the DVD format would be PERFECT for selecting the narrator, although I don't think they could do 5.1 as well for each narrator.

This is great news! My whole family loves this show and we've literally worn out 2 (count 'em) VHS tapes. Ringo does a great job narrating and Nilsson's tunes are top notch. If you haven't seen it yet....you must!

    Little Oblio!
