My copy should be arriving in a few days - on the 15th (per Amazon). The release date is the 15th too, but I'm hoping Amazon gets in sooner and to me on the 15th. Hopefully it sounds as good as the Bob Marley albums - also remastered at Abbey Rd Studios. Anybody else have their orders in?
Hi! I own the "Every move you make" 6 LP boxset, but for most of them I prefer the originals, which I also own. It's a nice "Best Of" but don't expect much from it. For 40€/$ I would rather buy 2 originals in VG+ condition - but that's your choice. Bye Andrea
No, I have not. But I would be suprised if they are not the exact same versions (masters) as the 2018 remastered box set. Bye Andrea
Forgot about this, thanks for the reminder -- ordered. Very much looking forward to it, but I have to echo the sentiments that I expect this to sound identical to the Every Move You Make box -- which sounds fantastic.
Miles has new equipment since then and he just redid the Roxy Music and they sound great. All the half speeds suck on the old equipment. New ones I have that sound great are like 6 of the Marleys, Paul McCartney-Ram, Stones-Exile on Main St, and the new Roxy Music cuts Was thinking about getting this Police? Let us know how it sounds when you get it.
Yep. I should mention that the 6 LP boxset does not sound bad - it sounds good, but to my ears the originals do sound better. The only advantage is that you will get a quiet pressing - no background noise, no pops etc. Bye Andrea
I have a lot of the AR half speeds. The only one's I have been impressed with are the Marley's, which are superb. The others are well pressed and the covers very nice (especially all the ABBA's) but I wasn't impressed with the mastering. And I don't think half speed mastering makes any difference at all. I have a lot of them and that portion, I'm convinced, doesn't really make any difference how it will sound. The Police catalog is very well recorded so I'm sure they will sound fine, but I'm doubtful they will beat the originals.
Agree completely. It is a great way to get quality pressings, but I would seek originals if I wanted the very best sound.
The pressing is of very good quality with a very low surface noise. The mastering changes the sound rendering, it's more balanced, with attenuated highs that sound less 80s. The curve compares the spectrum of the vinyl (white) and of Qobuz (blue), we notice the differences of levels in the highs (yellow zone) and the low register (green zone). You can find more comparison with measurements (DR, Spectrum, waveform...) and samples here. Jean-François
My take as well. The half speed box set is definitely pretty decent, but for GITM and Synchronicity in particular the US originals edge them out. Zenyatta half speed was the standout in the box for me.
Ahh, I see the link now... Yes it looks like it may well be better balanced now (although I’d like to see the avg levels as well as the peaks).
I had the box set and got rid of it. I have a UK pressing of Ghost in the Machine that I found was substantially better sounding than Miles cut.
The Stones Box Set I believe was the first ones on the new equipment The Stones got an individual release in 2020 I believe
I'm listening to the records right now as I post and I'm impressed. I have not heard the previous half speed mastered box set, nor do I have special pressings of the other albums, but this is definitely better than the pressings that I have (Synchronicity, Ghost in the Machine, ZM). If I had a gun to my head, I would definitely say that this is in the same league as the Bob Marley Abbey Rd Studio pressings. The bass guitar and drumming on Waking on the Moon sounds fantastic. I know a lot of it depends on one's equipment, room etc, but I give this a thumbs up.
