That's quite a bit of rotational movement on the headshell, never noticed that before, this is not good news for my OCD.

Had a little play there, twisting clockwise seems to be quite level going by the reflection of the cartridge body on the record. Anti-clockwise seems way off. Obviously the real test is inspecting the stylus in the groove but I don't have the capability.

It's actually pretty good, you can make azimuth adjustment compensating a misaligned cantilever/stylus without the need of a special headshell.

You don't turn it after it's tightened, do you? That would put quite a bit of load on the bearings, I'd think.

No, I adjust it then I tighten it.

How do you line it up, other than the reflection test?

I use a bubble level and change by ear if I feel the need. My 2M Black needs a bit more of twist, when flat it doesn't sound good with all records, my VM540ML sounds perfect in every record when the bubble is flat.

If I was ever going to step out on Yamaha, it might just be with one of these tables. I love that motor!

Yup. 1/8 in might be closer to the actual spec as measured using digital calipers but pretty much the same.

Awesome! If it sounds as good as it looks, you may not be leaving the house for awhile. That pic makes me want to go blow $4K really bad!

The brass platter is stunning. I've never seen a SL-1200G in person but I saw a SL-1000R in a hi fi shop once, so beautiful.

I used a Shure V15 Type IV just to test it out. I have a 2M Black and a Blue on the way.

Goofy question... has anyone forgotten they had a record on and had it spinning on the dead wax for hours? I just had a brief memory lapse of a few minutes but could never rule out hours given my lack of short term memory.:nyah::doh:

Yes, I accidently left a Shure M97xE on a Rolling Stones album for two weeks. The stylus bumping the lead out groove pulverized the groove.

Three things: 1. the new GR's headshell has an azimuth adjustment feature secured by set screw, 2. the headshell receptacle will square the cartridge as it is tightened, meaning rotation of the headshell to get proper azimuth while tightening may not be necessary unless of course the stylus is not perpendicular to the cartridge body, and 3. my Shure V15V cartridge azimuth gauge confirms 2.

I didn't know about this new GR's headshell. I have the old one then. Did they change it? I tried to find it with Google but couldn't.
