The Wah-Watusi: A dance diss track?

The Wah-Watusi came up on my Spotify shuffle recently and I decided for whatever reason to really listen to the lyrics and realized the Orlons actually come for every other dance of the era. The song takes shots at the Fly, the Mashed Potato and the Twist lmao.

According to the Orlons, when you do the Fly you're arms are wasted waving in the sky

When you do the Mashed Potato you're dancing too far apart

And when you do the Twist, you'll never get yourself kissed



The Wah-Watusi peaked at #2 on the pop charts in 1962.

Is this the first dance diss track?

I suspect the lyrics are just another angle from which to write a dance song. I like the song but Crossfire is my favourite by the Orlons, followed by Not Me ...

I'm guessing the Martians could do the wah-watusi too, after all the lyrics to Martian Hop say, "I couldn't name a single dance the Martians couldn't do"!

But it was pretty common fr dance songs to say "You've got to do this dance instead of all the other ones."
