Reminds me of my criticism of the Certain Boring Soprano Episodes, where I wanted Less Yacking and More Whacking.

LOL, yea I remember those as well, but since it was based on a Mob Family I let it slide...; )

I thought that Episodes 1 and 2 were just ok, 3 was amazing, and 4 was somewhere in between. I'm just not a fan of Nicotero as director unless he's helming something like Terminus or the Negan-murder-porn episode. I can't quite put my finger on it.

This season has been crawling along.

Why wasn't Negan locked up when Lydia was being beaten?

This is purely speculation. I have never read the comics and don't know what is going to happen but maybe Negan is going to redeem himself by killing Alpha. And where did this new doctor show up from? Perhaps he is a mole?

The thought that kept creeping into my head last episode was “soap opera”. Zzzzzzzzzz

  14. I think this season is an improvement over the last few but it is starting to drag. IMO so far there's been two hours of 'good' material in the four hours broadcast. Pick up the pace, please!

    Negan's Back!
Will he really join The Whisperes or is he just working to infiltrate their group?

Last Nite was the Best Episode of the Season so far.
I knew things were not going to end well for the young dude, who idolized Negan, but thought he was still the 'Older' Negan prior to his apparent rehab in the cell. Was surprised that dude killed the Mother and her Young Son thinking Negan would approve, even though Negan told him earlier in this episode that he did not kill Carl, as he does not kill kids. I guess like Omar from 'The Wire', even Negan lived by a certain code when it came to who he would or would not kill.

Good Negan ep., will be interesting
to see how much of the GN makes it
    into subsequent seasons.

I agree it was probably the best episode thus far, even with the lengthy nut slappin' discussion. ;) I'd be surprised if Negan really joined The Whisperers. That doesn't seem like it would be his thing.

Thanks for the reminder. Back when the show was good. The first six seasons were mostly great. Enjoy them. I miss them.

    My take the the rest.
Season 7 is where it finally fell apart for me. It started on the back of repeated dumb decisions to finish S6. The show changed half way through S6. Rick & Co's characters changed from previous seasons. They did really dumb things in the interest of milking the script. I finished S7 with little interest, the TV on while I did other things.
Recorded S8, read episode reviews, then deleted the episodes without watching. After this point the story was too far gone IMO to pick it back up after Gimple's disaster of ruining a great show.

Look at the Rotten Tomatoes ratings by year. It started falling at the end of S6 while S5 was the second highest rated season. S7 & S8 were the rut, where only the die hards were willing to trudge through them.
S9 rated good on RT. By then I, and I presume many others, were too far removed to bother coming back.

I still think Negan is the one who is going to kill Alpha. I think he is the one who will end the Whisperers.

Along with Carol and Daryl(his good friend off the set). Maybe Judith will be old enough by that time to also help out as Negan always liked(or Admired/Respected) Rick's kids, despite not liking Rick.

I had to give it a break. I blew through the first six seasons and didn't like the twist to Rick & his group as you mention. I also liked Abe, as he gave the most laughs of any character in the show and had a really good comedic chemistry going with Eugene. Basically they got rid of the comic relief in favor of other disposable characters IMO.

Rick essentially became Shane, a character that I found pretty annoying. Not only that, the actor Lincoln seemed to take on Bernthal's mannerisms - again, annoying. Bernthal's schtick works in certain roles (The Punisher, his character from Wolf of Wall St, etc.) but it's his schtick and it was lame that Lincoln picked up some of that. I don't know if it was accidental or on purpose but it was a turn for the worse unfortunately.

Not sure I'll pick it back up just yet.

We agree on this - that episode was just water-treading.

This week's, though, I thought was pretty good, even if certain plot points seemed rushed/unlikely.

I thought that the Governer episodes were the worst of the series, with the exception of All Out War.

Diff'rent strokes for sure. I thought his character was excellent, especially the season that tracked him after the fall of his first settlement. "Everyone loves a hero," and all - that was great.

    I'm going heavily with "infiltration."

There is pretty much nothing about the Whisperers that jibes with Negan's aesthetic/philosophy.

I guess he could just use them to bring down Alexandria/Hilltop and not actually join them, but the Whisperers don't really need his help for that - they were well along their way already. So if that's where the story went, it would be stupid (though that would be far from the only time they wrote something stupid into the plot).

It's nice that they're giving an actor with Jeffrey Dean Morgan's ability something to work with now - Negan the Dictator was a complete waste of his talent. And most of the other actors cast on this show, unfortunately, can't carry entire episodes by confronting moral dilemmas. They're just too wooden.
