Yeah, like when you see a plane flying overhead or someone wearing a watch in a western.

This series was shown on Channel 4 in Britain and was reasonably popular.

I watched a few episodes and, though the central character's experiences were not mine, I was impressed with some of the period detail. But I found it all a bit sudsy and soft focus and the crackerbarrel philosophy that bookended the episodes began to grate very quickly.

I couldn’t get into thirty something. I thought the first few seasons of Wonder Years were top notch

One of the few new shows from the 80s that my dad and I watched pretty religiously. Kind of funny, because I was 19 and my dad in his late 60s. Yet somehow it connected with us.

I mean, it's no "Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog", but yeah I guess it's okay. :)

This scene, though. For context, Wart was a friend of Wayne’s who had just returned from Vietnam.

This show fit my demographic perfectly, and if I had had a TV when it aired I probably would have been hooked.

As it happens, it was on in reruns several years later, right when I was getting home from work and needing some chill-out time. Superb piece of period americana.

I highly doubt that's the reason it was canceled.

The show had run for 6 seasons and 115 episodes which is a very good and lengthy run. I suppose they could have kept the show going, but the show's focus was on Kevin growing up and maturing and I think by the time it reached that last season they had run out of stories to tell because he was growing quickly and they'd already done a lot of the most interesting story arcs they could do.

They pulled the plug at the right time, and went out on a high note before going off the rails

    Loved the show.

Can't believe it was 30 years ago.

It felt like one of the first "Modern"
Shows on tv. A "new kind of drama" if you will.
