I was hoping maybe for more 50s and 60s ladies like Julie London. Now that would have been cool imo.

I cant see this one thats being offered flowing that well.

Track list looks like an embarrasment of riches. Wonder how it hangs together as an album....

My copy arrived today and I listened to it tonight.

Nice mellow mood throughout the 2CDs.

Superb sound (Kevin Gray), lovely singing, wonderful songs and generous liner notes by Michael Fremer.

    Really, really nice release!

Yeah, I guess I will order a copy. But it's so damn expensive.

Their single disc issues are 30 bucks. This 2CD set is only ten more than that.

I am going to have to pick this title up. Lots of good songs on it.

Agree. Just got my SACD copy today and it sounds excellent, with really nice pacing based on the selection and the compiled track list. I was actually enrapt for the 90+ minutes it took to listen to both discs. I actually liked it so much I might go for the vinyl version as well.

What sort of packaging did they use on this? One of those double CD cases or did Analogue Productions finally figure out that you can stack 2 disks in a super jewel case? And did they put all 90 mins. on a single SACD or is it 2 SACDs?

    Seems all over the map.
    Needs to be more focused,
Ex. Perhaps spotlight 50s vocalists and then take it from there...

  19. We haven’t even begun to discussed shipping notification and tracking info yet and you want answers to what sort of packaging and if AP figured out the art of the super jewel case by stacking one on top of another and if it all fits on one disc vs two? Personally I throw the discs away once I separate the ‘packaging’ mainly because if they aren’t in separate trays in the case, I have no use for them!

  20. Ok, seriously. I have this in my stack and toward the middle of the queue and I’m looking forward to playing the two discs which are stacked on top of each other in one Super Jewel case. Great presentation from AP and I can’t imagine I’ll be anything but pleased once I have time to play. AP + Kevin Gray = quality, every time.

    Yep, totally agree.

But really its simply slick business. Rehash a bunch of stuff youve already liscensed cheaply and mix and stir.

  22. Okay, I couldn’t wait, put on disc one. Dusty Springfield Son of a Preacher Man came on and blew me away. I said to myself, “she’s in my living room” (you guys know that’s my favorite analogy when I get excited.) Hit reply and cranked up the volume. So smooth, perfect soundstage, horns high and low. Background singers one side, Dusty in the middle. Wow, never heard this song (which I love) sound so amazing. That was worth the 40 bucks alone. The rest of side one songs mighty fine. Sweet, sweet DSD-SACD. So glad this format died 20 years ago . . . HA!
Buy it before it’s going for $100 on Discogs.

  23. I thought the same, but it really is a nice listen. People blow 40 bucks on a dinner. This dinner will last a lifetime.

I'm not a big fan of compilations but you have almost sold me on this one! I will have to sample some of the songs...

  25. Son of a Preacher Man, Crazy, Diamonds and Rust, Show Biz Kids, Black Coffee and Send in the Clowns are the stand outs for me, so far . . .
