Does anyone really think Swindle is a proper Pistols album? Coz' I don't. And are we really going to pick nits with live albums ?
there are a LOT of the amazing NWOBHM bands which never went past a single, its a shame, ive been trying to collect them for the past 35 years, there is a ton of great music out of England and surrounding areas during 1977-1983. record them on my computer, burn to CD, and i have a lifetime of play from some of the rerest great music from that region.
Scott Colby. An excellent slide guitar player. Originally from New Jersey, Scott was a key member in Zoogz Rift's early and excellent band Zobus. Like Zoogz, Scott eventually relocated to California. Aside from working again with Zoogz, Scott recorded one album for SST records. It's a great album, the core trio of Scott, Willie Lapin on bass and Mark Crawford throw down some killer grooves. There are also some nice contributions from Henry Kaiser, John "Drumbo" French and Bruce Folwer (among others). Anybody interested in really great guitar-based instrumental music should give it a listen. It really is an excellent album all the way through.
I have to imagine that there are scores of really crummy one-offs but these are some of my favorites and wish they had released more: Mistress Mary - Housewife Relatively Clean Rivers - Relatively Clean Rivers Mountain Bus - Sundance Plane Jane - Plain Jane Baby Huey - The Baby Huey Story The Kinbotes - The Kinbotes Michael O'Gara - Michael O'Gara Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth Does Dennis Wilson count?
Sand-Golem (1974) A lost psychedelic masterpiece (recently reissued) recorded by Klaus Sculze. This band broke up soon after Golem came out. From Brainwashed.com: "At the time, Schulze and engineer Manfred Schunke were developing a proto-surround sound recording technique called Artificial Head Stereo Sound and this was one of the first albums to make use of the new technology (and the only one that is still remembered today)."
The original post meant one record - as in one slice of wax with music on it. Thus, bands with an album and a single wouldn't qualify. Whether Swindle is a proper Pistols record is arguable but there's enough stuff on there to make the case as being a worthwhile addition to one's collection. And if the Dominos live album doesn't count, we may as well not count Live At Leeds either!
