Yanking this out of the Nirvana thread, which really wasn't the right place to have a hearing loss discussion (or was it?) Here are a few links that I'd really like you to read, Tom: http://www.deafened.org/ynoise.htm http://www.doctornewyork.com/articles/art8.asp http://europe.cnn.com/2000/HEALTH/aging/04/19/hearing.loss.wmd/
My ears ring all the time. I am sure that this is the result of playing drums in a rock band with Fender Dual Showmans behind me and attending loud rock concerts. I should have listened to my mother when she used to yell at me, "Turn that down before you ruin your hearing."
I only notice ringing a few time of the year. Only rarely has it been so bad as to keep me up at night. I only use headphones when I do detail work and I wear hearing protection at concerts. If I do listen to loud music I take lost of breaks. Oh, and I like Nirvana.
I ate some Chinese food recently with MSG in it, after an hour I thought “The Bells of St. Mary” were going off in my ears. Took about 12 hours to wear off.
I'm glad MSG doesn't bother me! But I can't use Aspartame. The stuff makes me restless. Give me cyclamates!
Grant, Funny you should mention Aspartame. I'm a diabetic myself and I agree with you 1,000%. Give me saccharin any day! I've had the restlessness myself, but have ya ever had one of the nasty headaches from it? Ouch! I could go on forever about how the corporates rigged the Saccharin tests, but I won't.
Yes, i've also had the headaches, and I know exactly what has happened with the underhanded stuff between the companies and the government. Aspartame should not be on the market!
Quoting Dave: I, too am Diabetic. Type I. I have been for 27 years. I agree with you. Saccharin should never have been banned. Brian
Interesting, Pope V! I'll bet they test pilots for vision on a regular basis. They test drivers before giving them a license. They are considering testing older drivers to see if they can see, hear, etc. Why don't they do hearing tests on mastering engineers? Like everyone who won CEDAR awards? You'd think the record companies should be concerned about this. Wouldn't you?
The medical explanation for the loss of hearing for the audio industry professionals, the so-called 'golden-eared' was a condition called 'tarnitis'. Notice in the picture the golden ball bearings. these golden ball bearings begin to degrade. this is due primarily to 'heavy metal' which is dis-similar to the 'golden ear' metal. It is a well known fact that different metals will react chemically. An inexpensive remedy was an ear rinse consisting of a mixture of LAST and tarn-x. Researchers have had some success with transplanting an upgraded 'platinum ball bearings' . A transplantee exclaimed, "it was like removing a veil!" But others said , "the difference can't be measured so it doesn't exist." Still another replied, "What???"
