The Dropper is so so so SO good!
To me, Medeski plays like a mix of Larry Young and Jimmy Smith

Apologies folks, but did I just dream Tyners Extensions was coming out in one of these series?
I cant find it on either upcoming lists TP or BNC

I hope so. I listened to that one for the first time just this week. Much better than Expansions - way jazzier.

Agreed. I like the earlier MMW, but The Dropper and Uninvisible IMO their peak studio albums.

I love that album. I have a UA reissue from 1972. Alice Coltrane kills it on harp.

Im new to it but absolutely loving it ( streaming)
I covet thy UA reissue. :)
I find despite the much maligned UA BN reissues from the early 70s some are quite good but with a Covid changed world, even those go for nose bleed prices these days. Someone otta look at before and after Covid vinyl record price points: I think a dramatic change has taken hold.

IIRC, recently someone posted Extensions on Instagram, and Joe commented that he had just finished mastering it with Kevin. But I don't remember who posted it and can't find it.

Pretty sure my partner has this same repress. RVG in the deadwax. Great sound! She got it right before the pandemic really took a toll on prices. If I recall, some stuff was selling cheaper right at the onset of the pandemic, as people were in lockdown and trying to sell stuff off to stay afloat.

Yeah, my copy has RVG stamped in the deadwax. It's one of the first jazz albums I owned. I bought it new, probably in the late 70s.

I think it's just a mixed up listing.

Finally picked up a copy of turrentine that’s where it’s at. Holy schmoly this thing is an absolute banger. This was one of the ones I didn’t bother to Amazon, would read a review here, would feel guilt about not getting it, and was able to snag a lone copy at my local today. Very underrated session and super happy Joe did this title!

Great album, “Smile Stacey” is a killer blues with an all-time classic groove.

I always liked Shack Man, but these guys were SOOOO good live. Saw them once at a pretty small club and I was sitting as close to Billy Martin as he was to his bandmates. It was pretty exhilarating. Would love to check one of these out on vinyl.

Oh man this would be great news. Love this album and boy that cover would look great on a nice Stoughton jacket.

The UA reissue with the Blue label is really just an extension (apologies) of the first press.
A year after release and due to the label changing its design.
    And what a brilliant album.
Just looked at discogs and in the context of original Blue Notes this is still a bit of a bargain

Some beer bottle jazz while I enjoy my IPAs this Friday night.

This is the new AP 45 RPM reissue. They really knocked it out of the park.

But if you don’t approve, this is also good IPA music. :)
