…..I'm using this thread to listen to the others and determine my #5. I'm only familiar with the 79-84 Scorps so far...

They're one of those "depends on the day" bands. I'll listen to anything between Virgin Killer and Crazy World and I'll be a happy camper.

For the longest time I was too (thru Crazy World). My first time getting into the Uli era was Tokyo Tapes then got into Taken By Force and Virgin Killer. Great stuff.

Could've sworn there was a similar thread or question like this about the Scorps not too long ago. Anyways, hope I answer it the same way.

Without a doubt are these top 4 for me:

#5 is tougher. I would need to revisit many of the albums (& have no time to do that). Might have to go with one of their last 2 studio albums but am really not sure.

 

I prefer the albums with Roth these days.

Big struggle with this for me.....I vastly prefer Uli and Michael's playing to Jabs, but I love every second of Animal Magnetism... Depending on the day Lovedrive is either #2 0r #5.

 

Uli is the standout. Really an amazing musician. Rudolf lays the foundation and the songs. He is the sound of the band. Uli shines especially on Taken By Force. Which i've grown to love much more later in life. I had an old RCA lp which had poor sound. Now with the cd it just stands out. His playing on Taken By Force is amazing. Drifting Sun is my fave though. Michael is just amazing. Lonesome Crow is another i only had on an old lp. Now with the cd it is more loved. But, was always a real fave. Matthias is the underdog. But on Animal, Lovedrive, Blackout and Love at First Sting he wrote an amazing new book. Great player. But, will always pale to Uli and Michael, they just are Hedrixy type players. He is more workman like.

I saw Uli last tour where he did Scorps songs. Slims is a small place they were cramped, but, Uli, stopped time. Just an amazing show. I saw Michael pretty recently and he was so spot on. Loved the show. Not a big fan of his singer but they were great. And he rocked. I'd kill for a set of Uli stuff with the full scorps with Uli. Never happen but i wish. They kind of dismiss this stuff in their history of the band. Even that last record they said it was 80s era outakes, as hype, that they redid. Well it suked so. Try some Uli era outakes. I really dug the Greek unplugged record though. And they are still cool live. One of my fave bands that just don't see themselves as i see 'em.

The other thing is they are just one hit wonders in the usa. Kind of lumped with all the 80s hair bands. And the same fans. In my era of the 80s with my metalhead crowd we listened to all of it. Including Lonesome Crow and all the Uli stuff. It was the same in our eyes.
