Perhaps. I still think Coldplay took the floating voters who previously went with Travis at the time of The Man Who, though.

A band that improved with every album...I saw them post-9/11 at Radio City Music Hall (with Remy Zero, another favorite, opening)...it was a magical night.

Released on vinyl originally in 1999, and again last year as a very limited box.
Neither of which is remotely cheap now.

Another missed opportunity. Think I’ll stick with my cassette dub.

I bought a ticket to see them at the Newcastle City Hall. I'll arrive in town earlier in the day to do a bit of sightseeing, as I've never been there. The venue looks beautiful and I bet it the acoustics are good. Perhaps someone who has watched a concert there can offer an opinion?

Meanwhile, I found this bit of info on their website: "We are very happy to announce our friends Turin Brakes are going to continue the journey with us and will be opening on the final run".

Not sure I'd agree that those two albums are better than The Man Who but I would definitely put them on par, and would agree that fans of the latter should check out both of those later LPs. Where You Stand is particularly fascinating as the songwriting is spread almost equally across the band, and yet it holds up as a cohesive album with that indelible Travis feel.I didn't even realize how varied the songwriting was until I read the liner notes: to me it sounded like 11 top notch Healy tunes. That's the sign of a good, working band with a manageable ego quotient. Healy was clearly ok with sharing the songwriting, while the others avoided putting their "stamp" on the band and rather wrote material that fit the band's sound. A bit like Entwistle, late in The Who's recording career, writing "Townshend"-like material for Roger to sing ("Had Enough," "Trick of the Light," "Dangerous," "It's Your Turn").

So it looks like they are releasing The Man Who again with extra tracks. Their 1999 Glastonbury show is also getting a release.

well, there WERE a lot of non-album b-sides with these guys during this era.

    a good record--i need to re-listen again (it's been a few years).

Guess I didn't need to fret over the deluxe reissue from a couple years back. Which I did. And bought.

I'd much rather just have the standalone album, which is also being made available. Guess I'll try selling my box now.

Some of their later stuff reminds me of Keane. Which is not good. His voice is impeccable though. Just so soothing.

  12. So the deluxe edition of The Man Who is out. Like the Deluxe, it basically has most of the material from that time. Anything missing from it off of the top of folks heads who have the various singles?

I've always liked their cover material.
Normally I wouldn't be, but these guys are superb.
'Killer Queen' is a great example of how great a band they are tackling difficult tunes.

So accurate that it would fool most listeners. The only tip-off are the relative lack of Freddy-isms at the very start.

Just got my LP and am pleased with it for the most part. Does have some obnoxious clicks here & there but Audacity cleaned them up nicely.

This was spinning a lot among me & my friends during the summer of 2000! Oh how the time flies! I also dig maybe even more their "dark" effort 12 memories. Both albums full of great songs....actually had forgotten about this band so should give these two a listen soon.
