The Roth one? I don't think EVH and Sammy were sending each other flowers either...I don't know what happened but it seems lame that he canned that Anthony guy to put his kid in the band, too...I can't back it up but he seems like a jerkface from the impression I've gotten over the years...
Relatively Clean Rivers right now. Before I was listening to a Fall show, 10/27/83 Brighton, I can't remember where I got it but the sq is really good (for the Fall anyway, if it was the Dead it'd be "it's a shame this is all we have"). But there's Garden, Words of Expectation and Backdrop--3 big bigsters in one show. Titanic "Backdrop" with MES's keyboard showcase at the end building to an atonal frenzy (he basically just mashes the keys without looking but somehow it comes off and then some).
Thanks a lot for that, time-wise and thought-wise. We are in agreement on Clear Spot, Ice Cream for Crow, Doc at the Radar Station (which was such a surprise that it made lead review in the music rags when it was released as I remember), and Shiny Beast or Bat Chain Puller, or whatever, how many more versions there are (i have 3). Just don't screw with Tropical Hot Dog Night. UG't is just that, Vliet knew it, I think, God bless'm; but I still like it ok.... Beefheart Lite, if you will. If I came off as apologetic on the Secrets spin while touting my Beefheartisms, I'm too old for that. But I did mention the irony because I had not delved that far past Palmer's more's R & B oriented earlier material. To be fair I was surprised and delighted that I liked it so much. Mark another one up for Robert P. Now if I ran a marathon one bewildered day on the Eagles Greatest Hits 1 and 2, then I might not be above apologizing, my petty snobbisms be damned... lol. I think I mentioned a few days ago that I have this one as Best Batch Yet 30th Anniversary (still not listened to it yet). Everything appears to match up date-wise, set-wise and venue. Now that is a prime 70's pair there. Therein that thread lies the sacred Purple Sage, I'm sure of it. I'm anxious to get the Dillard/Clarke pair, and some of the Dillards too. It has been tough to find though, so far. NP: Some americana morning tuneage, Lee Clayton was an interesting guy when he released his 2nd and 3rd records in the late 70's,,, Naked Child is about as close to Link Wray's Bullshot (without the chorus) there is,,, some heavy shredding on this with a countrified rockabilly sound, a little polish and reverb, but it doesn't kill the material or performance. A few tunes from Gram Parson's Grievous Angel (original cover). Johnny Cash covered a very old song in American Recordings, originally called Delia. 'Bob Dylan in America', the book, covers the history of the song in great detail, (Dylan covered it on World Gone Wrong); about a murder, a fascinating history from many angles that occurred in Savannah, Georgia in 1900. Included in the chapter are some brilliant insights into '89's Oh Mercy, the acoustic pair, and his trilogy of great records starting with Time Out of Mind,.. good stuff.
I wouldn’t go that far (not that you were either...). But it was an excellent pairing. I love Blood on the Tracks and I’ve been enjoying listening to the various takes and remakes.
Absolutely not. DLR is a giant tool bag and it just oozes out into their music. Pound cake, Right Now, In N Out, Spanked, Pleasuredome and especially 316 are friggin classics !
Let’s just say I strongly disagree. DLR may be a giant tool bag but that is part of what makes him a great front man. You’ve got to have an ego to put yourself out there like that.
But it's a different Delia on WGW! "All the friends I ever had are gone...." An old song, whereas Cash I'm pretty sure penned his Delia...
In with Mr Bassie and out with Erik B! Times they are a-changing... Up next, my Eddie Vedder/Pearl Jam depreciation thread. I think I'm going on Forum vacation for a while. We'll see how long I can last. Probably not very. ("That's what she said.") I'll be here all week. Tip your waitress.
Same here - BOTT has become the Dylan album of all Dylan albums for me. Sonically, songwriting-wise, performance-wise....if I had one Dylan album for the rest of time, this is it - easily. I really want to get/dig into that box set but I've heard some of the info is incorrect and considering the sessions confuse me already, it's just making me put it off more and more. I gotta have things somewhat organized - I can't be guessing "is this actually what it says?" and all that Love/Theft, BIABH and Freewheelin are in close proximity though
@Rne Kate Bush - Never For Ever Who the hell are you and what have you done to me?! I can't stop listening to this girl
Having an ego/persona, and being a giant tool bag, are two distinctly different things. DLR = giant tool bag/Robert Plant wannabe.
