Thank you, it's been built up over many years. The speakers I inherited earlier this year and they brought the whole thing together.
B&W does a great job with clean, vivid and detailed sound. It really rewards a DSBD recording where you can hear the band kick the pedals in a guitar solo. And the subs that put Phil right where you want him to be in the room. I see what you did there.
These B & W's have the habit of disappearing during listening sessions, leaving a soundfieldl of music. I no longer sit and analyze the sound, I just enjoy it. Betty's and Kidd's SBDs have tremendous spatial info, and proper studio material in all genre's comes alive.
In and out, I’d say for the most part paying attention to what equipment is doing isn’t a common occurrence. But....it’s always doing something, can’t hear a thing without it. hell, I walked the dog this morning while streaming a Kimock show from 2003. Those earbuds didn’t cross my mind for a moment. I guess they “disappeared”.
My local "corporate classic rock" station here in Greenville is actually pretty good on occasion. I was just shocked to hear "Little By Little" by Robert Plant and yesterday - in the middle of the afternoon - friggin' "Night Prowler" by AC/DC! Now, 90% of the time its the same old same old but someone there has some taste cuz I'm once in a while stumped going "no way they are playing this!" Nothing deep like Zappa, but a little below the surface beyond the total most-obvious stuff sometimes. I also heard another Robert Plant song the other day that wasn't an obvious track, but I couldn't put my finger on what song it was (I love his solo stuff but wouldn't call myself a die hard). Was super cool.
One of the first indications that I had become old as dirt was when I was talking to a new co-worker about music. A young guy, about 30 at the time (millennial generation), but into a lot of "Classik Rawk[tm]". I asked him if he liked Frank Zappa and he said "I think I've heard of him?"
When I was 14 or 15, for about 6 months, his name kept popping up all over the place in books and magazines I was reading. I kept on friggin' seeing his name everywhere so I finally decided to check him out. For about 10 bucks I scored copies of One Size Fits All, Overnite Sensation and JABFLA at a yard sale. Took 'em home that night and threw them on my bedside turntable. Life. Changed. I still remember staring at JABFLA going "Billy the Mountain?! 20 minutes?!" I don't remember which I played first but I know all three got spun that night and my life was forever changed 2009 was a good year But if it wasn't for hearing his name in music books and things, I never would've heard of him. I got really lucky I think. I can count on maybe one hand the number of times I've heard him on the radio - even the obvious stuff like Yellow Snow.
