Gong Est Mort, Vive Gong Also known as the “NOBODY had any idea WTF was wrong with me” album from @Dahabenzapple ’s college days...
Right you are, and JP built up enough cred w/ that one to ensure I click on anything he posts for the next year. Can't believe it took me so long to realize that searching/following the collections of those with common items to yours is the most efficient way to use Bandcamp. Of course, my small petting zoo has exploded into a full-fledged wildlife preserve since. Really wish I could use my Kroger Fuel Points for music... Listening to newly discovered MOOP, for which any combination of jazz, prog, rock, art, or closely affiliated subgenres could be welded together. Reminds me of the similarly superb trio TriPod. Great track off the latest offering ('a socialist's torment under an Italian government'?): Tourments d'un socialiste sous un gouvernement rom, by MOOP And the bees made honey in the human's head
The Mekons- Honky Tonkin': Low Noise, 1987 Horace Silver- Silver 'N Percussion: Blue Note, 1978 Johnny Rivers- Changes (mono): IR, 1966 U- Roy- African Roots: Celluloid, 1975 The Searchers- Love's Melodies: Sire, 1981 Robert Hunter- Jack O' Roses: Dark Star, 1980
His three record mid '60's run of Changes, Rewind, and Realization was as good as any other in the decade. Nice job having it in mono.
I love that album. I had listened to the previous record Going Steady and enjoyed it, but I’ve listened to Roped In a ton over the last year. Super relaxing, in a good way. I love Brian Blomerth’s artwork, definitely! I picked up his book Bicycle Day awhile back and it’s super entertaining. I also saw his work on the cover of a few albums by Buck Young in your collection a few weeks ago, and had to explore them. Pretty quirky, fun listens. Sorry
Barry Walker - Shoulda Zenith 2020, Holy Mountain Pedal steel player who appeared on that last North Americans record. This album is also pretty laid back but I’d say it mostly stays out of the “ambient” realm.
Since I'm going thru a blooze rock phase I figured I give this one a listen. Relatively new discovery. Pretty kick ass.
My favorite official release is this one, featuring a ridiculous 50 minute version of One Step Behind with Bob Malach (guitarist Tom Malach’s father). Garcia Peoples - 10-10-19, Nublu, NYC Although you seriously can’t go wrong with any of their live shows on NYC Taper... That show from 10.10 is actually posted there and it sounds as good if not better than the official release. I think they played four straight weeks at that venue. There’s also an excellent Chris Forsyth show played with Daniel Carter which is awesome. For studio releases I agree with @bzfgt that One Step Behind is the best, followed by the latest, Nightcap at Wit’s End.
From the Grateful Thread... Man, this news about Beyond Beyond is Beyond shutting down really sucks. They put out some great music for sure. In fact I just subscribed for a year, haha... wtf! Honestly though, I just appreciate all of the music. @adamos that is a great question. Might be worth contacting the label.
I remember you (I think it was you?) sharing that live release in collaboration with Chris Forsyth. Fantastic.
SKB 4/20/2002 House of Blues Brian Frost’s vintage Neumann mics. Simply THE BEST audience recording ever made.
