The whole album 'Madman Across the Water', excepting "Tiny Dancer", is largely unheralded, imo.
As mentioned in the OP, "Indian Summer"
is a great one. In the 80's, which were basically the last of my FM radio listening days, "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues", "Little Jeannie", and "I'm Still Standing" all got heavy rotation and the only older numbers that were still getting attention were songs like " Bennie and the Jets", "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting", " Rocket Man", " Someone Saved My Life Tonight", " Philadelphia Freedom", " Candle in the Wind", " Empty Garden", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road",
" Your Song", "Daniel", and "Harmony". Deep cuts from the albums 'Honky Château', 'Madman Across the Water', 'Caribou', ' and ' Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' largely fell by the wayside. By the 1980s FM radio programming had changed radically since the 1970s so it really came as no surprise that many great album cuts of his went ignored. Tbh, I haven't listened to Elton John at all in the last decade since having been separated from the only CDs of his I ever owned, "Madman .." and "Goodbye ..".

Not exactly unheralded: covered by Judy Collins and Sting. A firm favourite of mine.

Ticking would definitely be my pick. Probably the most harrowing Taupin/John song.

I'm sure there are many, many more. But these are my personal favorites at least

    Gorgeous melody, this...

This was back when Elton was just as much an organist as a pianist... If only he had continued using the instrument.

    Not "Gulliver's Gone", just "Gulliver"
Also it's "First Episode at Hienton" (in my top two Elton John songs).

I'm not correcting your post to be a smartarse, only to make it easier for anyone searching for these titles.

I could nominate lots, and probably repeat many that others have posted, so I'll just limit myself to one at most per album

    Lady What's Tomorrow
    Sixty Years On
    Come Down In Time
    Blues For Baby and Me
    This Song Has No Title
    Dixie Lily
    Better Off Dead
    Idol
    Madness

A great track, but hardly unheralded - it was a hit single.

Some great songs on the Friends soundtrack, but I could do without the long Paul Buckmaster instrumental sections. "Michelle's Song" is the highlight.

Also, another favourite of mine is "Lonnie and Josie", recorded by Kiki Dee, as far as I know never recorded by Elton himself.

    It was? Where?
According to Wikipedia it topped out at #110. A full year after the LP was released. Not anywhere near "hit "territory, IMHO.

Song for Guy was a sizeable hit in Europe, though. Also appears on the double-disk set The Very Best of Elton John which was a top seller here. Fairly certain it also made a dent down under, judging by audience reaction:

Then again Australia & New Zealand were always fantastic towards Elton... Even things like Leather Jackets made the top 10 etc.

So many. Seems like every album has 2 or 3 at least.
    Early UK singles...both sides:
    Lady Samantha/All Across the Havens
It's Me that You Need/Just Like Strange Rain
    Rock and Roll Madonna/Grey Seal

Album cuts that come to mind:
    The King Must Die
    Where To Now St. Peter
Madman Across The Water - Mick Ronson guitar version

"Restless"? A probably ridiculous stab at Stones-y terrain with "social aware" lyrics but I somehow always liked it: "There's talk on the street and the nation is worried /But you can't talk back when you're dead/ When you're dead and buried!" :biglaugh:
