Who is know for playing a guitar upside-down? A few famous lefty blues players, like Albert King and Eric Gales wielded a regular right-handed guitar flipped upside-down, but Otis Rush, who did the same, was sometimes even more bizarre, with a left-handed guitar correctly oriented, but still strung top to bottom. Any others?
From memory, Bobby Womack and Doyle Bramhall II. Guitar strung upside down, but not always a right handed instrument.
Well Jimi re-strung his guitars with the E-bass string up top...but he was known for his ability to grab a guitar strung for right handed players and simply flip it and play (amazingly according to witnesses).
In one of my first high school bands, I played with a guy who, like Jerry Garcia and Phil Keaggy, had a finger that was cut off at the first knuckle. But in his case, it was the middle finger of his left hand. So he simply turned over a standard guitar and fretted with his right hand and strummed with his left. If he want to play a barre chord or anything that necessitated a "chunky" sound from the bottom strings, he would strum upwards!
When I saw World Party a couple of years ago I noticed that lefty Karl plays a guitar (an acoustic) strung for righty upside down.
