July! My word, how have they managed to keep this one under wraps for so long? Better break into the piggy bank again. Hope it’s affordable
Is there any chance that the Hammill solo albums - seeing as some of them practically were Van der Graaf Generator in all but name, some songs at least - would be included in the box, or is that unlikely? I wish proper track lists would come soon... Then again July is not that far away.
The thing about that approach is I'm afraid if they lift a bit from the solo stuff they might not give us a solo box. The solo material is equal to the VDGG imo.
From what I understand it is just Van Der Graaf Generator albums. Apparently only 4 of them have 5.1 mixes. H to He, Pawn Hearts, Godbuff, and Still Life are the ones in 5.1.
That is probably true. Nadir's Big Chance has Evans, Banton and Jackson on every track (except one or two if I'm not mistaken) and you see this on some of the surrounding albums as well. But I get that they should be kept separate. It would be pretty cool with a Hammill solo box set too.
Great, those are the 4 best ones! (I, too, would love PH's solos albums from that era to get the deluxe treatment, especially In Camera).
A pity that it's not all of them but those 4 albums are probably the best ones and I am confident Childlike Faith In Childhood's End will be epic in its 5.1 mix (it already is in stereo).
The Japan SACDs are real nice, it will be tough to beat those albums for two channel. Should be interesting.
This bums me a little no White Hammer or After the Flood no Meurgyls or Mask or Wondering no Zone/Dome that record is wicked good just throw a dart. POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#!!!!!!!
I was hoping for new light to shine upon Darkness 11/11, but seems it will remain forever in the shadows.
If there are only 4 albums mixed in 5.1 the question on what's on 20 discs becomes even harder to answer...
I hope for some new material, and not only the same stuff again and again. Maybe they unearthed some of the shows which were recorded for the radio.
Tried to listen to the bonus tracks from my Godbluff CD and the quality was abysmal. I wonder if things like this could be rectified for the box set.
It's possibly a sacreligious thing to say, but I prefer the sound of the band with violin, and The Quiet Zone has been my long term favourite. It channels Rikki Nadir, with maybe a hint of Bowie thrown in. And as for Vital, well that is 2 discs of pure Prog/Punk/Metal onslaught.
I've got cd boots from the trade show days when that was a thing. One of them is a Godbluff gig with Louse . Its cool to here Louse with the band live You are right on its been so long I can't even tell the name of that cd right now. Crappy sound indeed.
Yeah they could really go up to Over since it was done around the same time as Pleasure Dome and has Guy, Nic and Graham Smith.
