Besides knowing the source, it would be great to know who mastered these and where they are being pressed.

I'm assuming that no responses here and a lack of details from UMe isn't a good sign.

Sadly, I think this is going to be more like the Blue Note 75th than the Tone Poet series.

Yeah, it would be nice to pick a couple of these up, but the lack of any kind of information is alarming. If they aren't volunteering it in the press release then it's probably bad news.

Sorry I wasn’t fully clear. I saw these, but it said there was already a series of impulse reissues including Coltrane’s Ballads, Cresant, Live at the Village Vanguard, A Love Supreme for example, which I cannot find.

Unless they provide more details, I’m going to pass. Probably just another one of their cheaply pressed series of reissues with indifferent mastering, that has the audiophile 180 gram vinyl sticker slapped on for good measure.

    People should avoid their reissues.

I heard that they are sourced from the original tapes. Has anyone bought them yet to give details about mastering/cutting?

I hava a friend who has a used record shop. One time I mentioned about thinning my Oscar Peterson collection . He told me to keep them -- his records never sell. "Night Train' is a great one though.

 :agree: Ditto every word of your post. In addition, the store owner who went thru my records said....jeez,you have a bunch of real nice Brubeck LP's but he doesn't sell except for Time Out.

Was anyone able to obtain more information regarding this series? Someone asked on Facebook and Instagram if these are AAA, etc.. No answer from Verve’s “Social Media team” (or more likely bot) so far.

I was in a record store and saw a copy of Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd – Jazz Samba. The cover looked to be very good quality and the sticker mentioed that the music was from the original tapes with the original sound and design. The price was affordable at 29.99 cdn so I was tempted given that I purchased a poor quality version of this album a few years back at a flea market.

This is the sticker I saw at the store which got me excited for this series.

The article that I read when searching for the sticker said:

Verve Records, potentially greatest jazz label of them all, has been one of the slowest to react to the resurgence in vinyl sales. So many albums have remained unavailable, forcing fans to buy the fake presses. Thankfully it seems like they've woken up and have launched a new series called Vital Vinyl that will release numerous albums from their massive vault. Promising to use the original analog tapes and authentically replicate the original album artwork and sound. Some of the first albums from this series came out yesterday. We look forward to featuring these releases as the year goes on.

I sell almost all of his titles at my shop, I don't dare try to push past $15 or anything except clean, 6 eye mono time outs though. I agree on Oscar Peterson though, rarely ever sell any from him although he is a great talent. Outside of Coltrane/Davis though jazz sells in 2 camps people who want ornette coleman, sun ra and old blue note/prestige/impulse (in the off chance they show up) or they buy bob james, george benson and grover washington jr. Rarely anything in between

The records in this series are probably cut from digital. “Original Tapes” and “Original Sound” is marketing hype.

This is already widely available. Why's it being reissued AGAIN? How about some of her other albums?

The Stan Getz & Bill Evans title. It sounds pretty good to my ears, is it has polylined innersleeves and the vinyl is very quiet. Sadly there is no mastering information in the dead wax.

Thank you! So, sounds like a super affordable way to get clean, quiet, above average copies of these titles.

I picked up the Coleman Hawkins with Ben Webster album – Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster. I agree with Starquest mine too is flat, quiet with very nice sound (I am not a hard core audiophile but I typically can spot the difference between not good and very good). The cover art on this one looks good, not a poor reproduction and mine came in the poly lined paper sleeve as well. It needed a quick clean but I find that with 90% of new vinyl. I do hope we get a continuation of good pressings for Jazz albums, Blue Note 75 pressings were horrible. The new Tone Poet series are incredible and these are very good.

There is no pressing information just says made in the EU Universal International Music B.V. Gerrit Van Der Veenlaan 4, 3743 DN, Baarn, Netherlands.

I will pick up more in the series.
