    Weezer Releasing Indie-Only EP

    By John D. Luerssen
    Rolling Stone

Weezer will release a new, limited edition EP, The Lion and the Witch, later this summer exclusively through independent retail stores. Consisting of seven tracks -- including live material and a new song temporarily called "Polynesia" -- the disc will be limited to a pressing of 25,000.

The project came to light after two groups of unified independent retailers approached Interscope Records asking for similar treatment for Weezer that major stores have received for other bands; U2's 7 Rare and Remixed EP was available only through Target, and Aerosmith's Made in America was available only through Wal-Mart.

"Weezer, being Weezer, decided that instead of just throwing out previously released B-sides or album tracks, they would create something new," band Webmaster Karl Koch said. "They recorded the latest Japanese tour for the purpose of using the live tracks."
