Al just posted a sneak peek for a box set dubbed Squeeze Box: The Complete Works of "Weird Al" Yankovic which will be housed in a replica of his accordion and available in both CD and (150 gram) vinyl

Hopefully the old albums don't end up mastered like his last few albums.

Accordion-shaped record-housing device... that's clever, has anyone else done it before?

It's FaceBook, so it might be not accessible if you aren't on FB.

You know, I think I might buy this thing when it comes out next year!!

Did he ever record it? I don't think he ever recorded songs before getting consent. Plus I don't think Paul has ever rescinded his objection.

The only time he recorded prior to getting permission was for Perform This Way because GaGa's management requested so (and then rejected until she actually found out herself)

Scanning the announcement poster with the Shazam app gives access to a mailing list for news regarding the box set. It's being handled by Legacy.
I'll share news here for those that don't wanna go through that hassle.

15CD box set which includes one CD of rarities.

Weird Al has 15 albums including the Wendy Carlos Peter & the Wolf album--so it looks like that one (out of print) won't be on the box. You get the other 14 albums and the rarities disc.

A lot of money for one disc of rarities.

As for the packaging--cute idea, but ultimately these weirdly shaped packages are just an annoyance. I'm thinking of the Tori Amos "piano" box and Rhino's girl group hatbox shaped release, among others...Cool, but don't store well...

Not sure, but he's definitely played it live many times.

Al's got a lot of OOP non-album stuff, especially from the early years. I wonder how comprehensive this'll be.

The packaging is a great, really clever idea. And will add $50 to the price.

True, but he still won't release a live version of it for the same reason.

Hopefully we get early things like "Belvedere Cruising", "School Cafeteria", the Dr. Demento songs like "Pac-Man" and "It's Still Billy Joel To Me", along with the full Placebo EP on the rarities disc.

I'm assuming it will be mainly the demos from Al in the Box and singles / B-sides such as Spy Hard, Headline News, The Night Santa Went Crazy (extra gory version) and Polkamon. I'd be honestly surprised if they throw in actually deep cuts such as Take Me Down and the rest of the Placebo EP, to name a few.

Plus "You're Pitiful" and a mandatory new song or two.

Just saw this on Twitter.... *huge* boxed set containing all of Al's albums AND rarities, coming next year - packaged inside an accordion, no less!

One wonders if "Peter and the Wolf" will be in it? (Fingers crossed....)

Yes! :righton: I hope each CD is rounded out with bonus tracks or maybe we'll get an entire CD of rarities! I love the accordion packaging!

"Peter and the Wolf" if Wendy Carlos is willing. I've never heard it but it sure can be expensive to get on CD used. It has never been reissued since it's original 1988 pressing.

    I hope it's re-released because it's terrific.
