    Also remade as I Am Legend. Charlton liked Woodstock; Will Smith liked Bob Marley.

    There are bits of "Dreamcatcher" that remind me of "Outbreak";
    Only Morgan Freeman is more like the Donald Sutherland character, and Tom Sizemore like the Morgan Freeman character.

    The above is one of my two favorites -- a harrowing, beautiful film.

    My other favorite is a low-budget film from Argentina, "Phase 7," about an inept doofus and his pretty, pregnant wife, who are quarantined in their apartment building during an outbreak: Imagine a crisis in which your nutcase neighbor, who has been stockpiling weapons, becomes your savior. The movie has a combination of horror and comedy that's rare in U.S. cinema. Here's a trailer -- unfortunately a lousy one with inappropriate music not from the film, but don't let that put you off -- I strongly recommend the film to anyone interested:

    Not a movie, but the Will Forte Fox TV comedy The Last Man On Earth features a virus the wipes out most life on earth in 2019-2020. The first celebrity to contract the virus in the show was Tom Hanks. No joke.

    Fox cancelled this after a cliffhanger season finale in 2018, around the same time the White House pandemic response office was shut down.

    Panic in the Streets is a good one about stopping the spread of disease that I bought at dollartree on bluray for $1.
    One Night Stand (1984) has a nuclear fallout/apocalypse theme combined with 80's teen comedy that I relish and will forever champion.
    Osmosis Jones takes the battle down to the individual level.

    Though it was poorly adapted into the film "Whats so Bad About Feeling Good", Vincent McHugh's novel "I Am Thinking of My Darling" is a fascinating twist on a plague story, and really one of the best books I've ever read ( I think McHugh is severely underated). Its very analytic and yet very romantic. It could make for a great movie...

    The best New York novel you've probably never read

    I'm pretty entertained by this one. It's funnier & better than the trailer would make you believe.

    Five (1951). Purchased on a $5 collection of horror movies I was very surprised by how poetic and mature this film was. 5 survivors of a nuclear fallout in which radiation is a constant threat and the reason they retreat to the hills. Has sort of a European feel to it.

    I don't see any reference to one, but it looks like an interesting book.

    Another book that has never been made into a movie that I know of, is Canticle for Leibowitz.

    You seem to be a connoisseur, I haven't heard of any of the movies you mention.

    Damnation Alley (1977}. This one is ripe for a better CGI remake.

    Went to a used DVD store today and found Panic in the Streets, as well as 12 Monkeys. Maybe this time I can follow the plot of that one.

    I wondered about Apocalypse Now, but don't think it would qualify.
