Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

Some sensational LPs released this year. Still play all of these to this day.

    Mott 'Shouting And Pointing'.
Dr Feelgood 'Stupidity'. (Bound to go for that one as one side of the album was recorded here in Sheffield!)
    Dylan's 'Desire'
Doctors Of Madness 'Late Night Movies, All Night Brainstorms'
The soundtrack to the tv series 'Rock Follies'. (Great show. Wish one of the satellite channels would take a chance on repeating it).
    'All The World's A Stage' - Rush.
    Status Quo
    'Blue For You'

I've just picked up Smokie's Midnight Cafe album. Very strong.

Seems to me they're a misunderstood band.

    Matchbox - excellent choice!

The only album featuring the original singer Wiffle Smith.

For me, they improved as time went on - Flying Colours is my favourite, though some don't like the country rock influences on that one - but Riders is a real statement of intent. They're still going strong. Touring Europe shortly, I believe.

They always play up here, too! I've seen them live at least five times. I have the first four LPs but had never checked out Flying Colours, but it sounds very good. I'll have to buy it. I don't remember hearing those songs live either, apart from Babes In The Wood.

Wiffle Smith is a great singer, too bad he hasn't done any more music. Or has he? I've heard he used to sing on the London tube at some point.

Don't know what happened to Wiffle. He was in the band for a good few years & had a decent set of pipes.

Lots of good singers in the band beside Graham Fenton, Gordon Scott is very strong & Steve Bloomfield is also a fine vocalist. At the risk of upsetting your bank manager, if you haven't got Steve's solo album Rockabilly Originals, it's excellent! :righton:

I think I already offered my selections here before, but here is a more "scenic" post, complete with a fantasy "original album series" box. And this is just volume one for the year, focusing on my five favorite albums released between January and June. Stay tuned for the volume 2 box. :)
