What Is The Big Deal About "A Christmas Story" (1983)?!?

Doesn’t seem like there’s anything sad about it, she’s gotten old. Beats the alternative.

I always thought of it as a dark comedy. Tuck at the heartstrings, "It's A Wonderful Life" - type movie it is not!

 

My point was is that the new film takes place in the 70's. Assuming the original takes place in the 1940's, the mom would only be in her fifties in the 70's. But sadly, Melinda, being in her
80's now could not portray a woman in her fifties. It's too bad, but it's just the way it is.
If the new film was done 20 years ago, she still could have played the part.
She, along with Darren, was my favorite in the cast in the original.

I think this film is to guys what those Hallmark holiday homecoming romances are for women.

 

Not sure. I think they want someone to make an offer. You also have to explain what you will do with it once you buy it. So I assume they are being very selective and hoping someone will keep it going as a museum and attraction.

We made the journey there from Florida several years ago. Now that we live in Michigan it is about a 4 hour drive so we would like to go back and see it again.

 

nice! must have been a thrill. Did they use the interior of the house as well or just the outside? you were lucky you got to see the house. A return trip would be awesome for you guys.

 

You can tour the house and it pretty much looks like the movie set but the movie set was just that- a set. But it looks close enough that you probably won’t know the difference. In this thread many pages ago I posted some videos of our tour.
