SONY BMG "Feelin' Groovy" Pts 1 to 4.
Three CD pack of 60's songs from the best possible source available.. The guy that sources the tracks is very meticulous, tries for the original single radio versions and tries hard to get tracks that have never been on CD before. Bit difficult though as some lost songs he can't get permission for, and also Sony want a lot of 'mainstream' tracks in there as they want the CDs to SELL. The engineer (I might add) hates using Compression. Also, the SONY BMG "Living In The Seventies" CD sets are great. The newer ones.

I've also gotten a lot of bliss (and mileage, thanks to my online radio station) from Fontana/MCA's Ibiza-groove-tastic Cafe Del Mar series curated by Jose Padilla from "the turn of the century" (wow, that sounds so wrong...). Kinda like a catalogue of heady chill you can stack right next to any volumes of Stephane Pompougnac's Hotel Costes series. "Spaced-Out-Age Bachelor Pad Music", if you will.

RPM's Dream Babes series of British beat girl stuff has been consistently fab over 8 or 9 volumes, plus this recent boxed set...

How does that compare to the Original Early Canadian Rockers series?

  15. I was going to mention this set as well. Good selections and over 65 minutes a disk.

Bam Caruso's Rubble series. This introduced me to a lot of obscure UK psychedelic obscurities as well as throwing in a few more well known items from bands such as The Pretty Things. I have all of these on vinyl as well as CD and more recently two boxed sets for completion! The series ran to twenty volumes in total with some minor changes along the way (the first CD sets fitted more than one volume on each CD, before returning to the original formal in the box sets). There were also a series of lighter psych in the Circus Days collections.

This is my pick as well - 16 volumes of 4CD boxsets filled to the brim with 12 inch versions that often are hard to find. Mastering usually is good too.

Basically no overlap. Made in Canada focuses on Canadian chart hits and cult gems of the 60's and early 70's, with unfortunately few early rock 'n' roll numbers. The first volume has the greatest focus the pre-Beatles era.

The Just Say Yes series, by Sire records (I believe) was pretty cool in the 80s/early 90s.

I treasure my Time-Life Sounds of the Seventies set...I play selections from it regularly...not sure about its current availability, however.

Other series I own and really enjoy are the Capitol Ultra-Lounge discs, Time-Life's Big Band series - segmented by artist, and the aforementioned Billboard Top Rock n Roll Hits collection.

Rhino's Radio Daze: Pop Hits of the '80s. It's a shame they didn't release more than five volumes.

(Awful cover art, I must add.)

Thanks. 'Made In Canada' looks to be more my sort of thing; I have Volumes 9 & 10 of 'Early Canadian Rockers,' quite enjoyable, but only listened to a couple of times.
