    Not my absolute favourite but I have listened to this more than any other LP in my collection. I don't listen to the Beatles or Stones that often because I know the albums intimately, but i have been listening to this regularly for 40 years and never burn out on it. Definitely in my top 5.

    Many, many wonderful albums cited here. The fact that Raymond Douglas Davies has not yet appeared in this thread 100 posts in is nothing less than an outrage. To paraphrase Joyce, yes, yes, and yes . . . my all time favorite album is

    The quality of the music, the breadth of the subject matter, the joy, sorrow, and despair invoked in a pop milieu is just staggering. If only life was easy it would be such fun, indeed. I just love, love, love, dozens, maybe a hundred works of pop, rock, jazz, and classical music. But when push comes to shove, this.

    Abbey Road is definitely #1. But not far behind it are (in no particular order)
    RAM, Paul McCartney
    Quadrophenia, The Who
    Selling England By THe Pound, Genesis
    Thick As A Brick, Jethro Tull
    Tonight's The Night, Neil Young.

    My list is weighted to wards classic rock (wait - its ALL classic rock). I tried to challenge myself - surely something has been released in the last 40 years. Sure there's been some good releases, but these albums remain the pinnacle of music for me. There is a reason that this music is still played on the radio regularly, while later 'top' artists have fallen by the wayside. Spice Girls were huge back in late 90s but who actually listens to them today?

    Well you just did. But now that you have brought up Hot Rats - its a fine album indeed. Not in my all time top 5 but its in the next cohort (excellent album but not top 5).

    Tago Mago would be in the same cohort :).

    I've loved Zappa ever since I started listening to him but Hot Rats took time to grow on me but it's grown on me in a big way.

    Depends on my mood;

    the top ones are are:

    The Stooges - Fun House
    The Gun Club - Fire Of Love
    Jackson C. Frank - Blues Run The Game
    The Wipers - Over The Edge

    and to a lesser degree - Bruce Springsteen - Darkness on The Edge Of Town (parts of it, sometimes; it is less a favorite than it used to be for me; but then so is Fun House, which is maybe the most perfect rock and roll album of all time)
