Today I listened to Are There Any More Real Cowboys, the Neil Young, Willie Nelson duet from Willie Nelson/Half Nelson CK 39990 CD
You know what Neil Young song I've been been watching a lot lately? The live, acoustic version of "Old Man" on YouTube. Specifically, I've been watching a lot of videos of black people "reacting" to it. It really is a hoot to see people's reaction to music that is (presumably) new to them. Of course it's a great song, but the reactions are pretty humorous -- especially from people who, for the most part, only listen to Rap and Hip Hop. Guess what, people? There's real music out there. With real chords, real notes and real lyrics. Poetic lyrics, even.
Listening to Neil Young & Crazy Horse Electric Prayers. A Genuine Pig Italian Import bootleg cd recorded 2/24/70 Cleveland Ohio. Great Fidelity
I was just listening to the following Neil Young & Crazy Horse cover when I got on SHF and saw this thread! Matthew Sweet - "Don't Cry No Tears"
It’s always Powderfinger and Rust for me Among others of course Such as Zuma Long May You Run Hawks n Doves Gold rush Decade ( is that cheating? )
Or it could be the following song in particular... Neil Young & Crazy Horse - "When You Dance I Can Really Love" (Year of the Horse live version)
It seemed to me to be more an album 'of its time' and has lost of some of its impact since its release. That happens with some albums, as other seem to resonate more as time passes.
I bought 'Comes a Time' yesterday and am listening right now. 'Lotta Love' coming out of the speakers as I type - I heard Nicolette Larson's version about 40 years ago, way before I knew the original. It was my intro to Neil Young but I only started buying his music last year. This looks like a great record. It sounds beautiful.
Well I'm not playing it now because I haven't cleaned it yet, but Time fades away 50th anniversary edition.
Ramada Inn. For me the best song he has written in 25 years. I could listen to it forever. Also finally picked up the ORS vinyl box set (13, 14, 20 and 21) and am blasting out Shots from re-ac-tor.
I think Archives II works much better than the first set. It seems better sequenced so sometimes the duplicated material isn't so apparent. One of my favorite playlists is made up of the Homestead and Dume discs, which would make a great 2-disc set on its own. Not a bad track on it!
I'm playing my five-hour playlist – and only my five-hour playlist – until Archives III comes out already. In my dark hours I've often wondered how much he put of himself and Peggy into this. Complete speculation, but its like he felt what was coming. Was amazing live.
I loved everything about this album. I just don't think 'Motorcycle Mama' belongs with the mood of rest of the songs. Just a minor quibble.
I agree. My iTunes playlist has Sail Away as a substitution. It fits well, and is from those sessions…but I do prefer it on Rust Never Sleeps
Been playing my Tonight's The Night LP a lot these days. Though I'm a fan of Neil Young (except later career) and Buffalo Springfield , I've never could get into this record. So I'm planning to sell it and trying to make a realistic grade of the vinyl. Funny thing is that it's starting to grow on me, so I'm not so sure about selling it.
My OG of CAT sounds soooo good. Agree 100%. What is the consensus on the (newish)Chrome Dreams LP? I'm not a Neil completist, but funny enough I acquired Chrome Dreams II in a collection I bought. Let's just say it's not my favorite Neil LP. Nice enough, but there is so many I'd reach for first.
