Like we have all agreed, modern audio gears are not made to last. The new religion of consumerism of the last few decades expect us to keep buying replacements since few things are built to last ...
This is my favorite, the Tandberg TR-2080. I also own the TR-2075 MK II, but haven't photographed it yet.
TR-2080 was just a face lift from the TR-2075MKII. But these were the last receivers made by Tandberg, which went separates for the last decade of its existence. It went bankrupt by the mid 90's like Nakamichi ...
Kudos to Tandberg gear. A good friend of mine had the TD-1040. It sounded beautiful, and was not repairable (by my technician, anyway). If you do have old Tandberg gear, you must take it to Soundsmith in Peekskill, NY. They are the experts. I have a Sony STR-V4 in the garage running speakers inside and out on the property, simultaneously. It is excellent.
SoundSmith has stocked up on parts for Tandberg. I heard they stocked up on the power transistors made by Toshiba required by some of the Tandberg amps that came after the receivers ...
Vintage Setton RS-660 receiver, made by a company billed as a collaboration between Europe, Japan and the US, lasted a little over two years in the late 70's before going out of biz ...
The picture doesn't even show the amplifier section that was connected with an umbilical cord to the tuner/preamp module shown in this picture.
I worked on one of those. What a beast. The amplifier section is ridiculously heavy. I doubt I will ever see one again as they are pretty rare.
Must have a massive transformer and you need to connect a pair of speakers that can handle 1,000 watts/ch to this receiver ...
It has 2 massive toroidal transformers in the bottom unit. Would be a good unit for some big Magnepans.
I have a Yamaha CR-620. Pretty basic. I’d love to own a refurbished Marantz 2285. Gotta start saving my pennies.
What do I have? Sansui G-9700 What do I want? No need for a G-33000. I'd be happy with a Sansui G-22000
Would love to have the Fisher tubed receiver my Dad bought in Germany in the 1960s. When he was in the USAF. I remember it briefly in The early 80s and by the late 80s he unfortunately had gotten rid of it said he was tired of replacing the tubes and I think something else broke in it. I wish I knew which model it was. Could have been bought in the early 1960s. It was sweet. I think it might have had a green backlight on the tuner but really can’t remember ….
My father had one also. I was storing it in the attic waiting to refurbish it. I needed to replace my roof first, yes the roofer went through the roof deck and destroyed the receiver. Never got that chance to restore it, oh well.
I have a Onkyo TX4500-MKII, ds939 and a ds989. The ds939 is in need of repair, but can't find anyone in CT.
I have a Fisher 500b. One of my favorite pieces. Its from the early 60s. Other Fisher tube receivers were the 400, 500C and 800C. The 400 and 500b have the cool tuning eye.
A few years ago, I noticed there were a few shops in the Berlin Turnpike area that seemed decent. Unfortunately, I don't recall the names ... But I found the following from my saved bookmarks ... Approved Audio Service - Call 860.567.5801
