Diiv - a sublimely rockin' show in December 2019.

Was looking forward to Sleaford Mods in April and Cruel World Fest in May...

My last show was Bob Dylan, October 24 2019, in Mankato MN. Excellent show. Someone took my seat (it was actually the music critic from the Star Tribune), so I had to grab another one that was only one more row back.

On February 28th, I saw Cassandra Wilson backed by Jason Moran and the Bandwagon with Marvin Sewell at the Kennedy Center. Jason and Marvin used to be members of her backup band. It was a reunion of sorts. Very special gig.

That's a great venue. I just remembered I had tickets to see Josh Ritter do an acoustic show at the McGlohan (sp) theater in Charlotte sometime in April/May.

Completely understand where you're coming from here. This is the main reason why I'm so picky about which shows I go to now. I'm tired of paying top $$$ and having to deal with the drunks.

During Primus i was 3/4 of the way back on the floor.

Drunks started shoving and the crowd surged. I was CARRIED by the crowd literally to where I was smashed against the barrier. There was only one person between the railing and me.

I had my arms shoved against their back just to breathe.

    Horrible.

Im the mosh king - I love getting rowdy. But damn this was unsafe.

About 20 years ago (dang, was it that long??) I went to see Metallica, Creed, Kid Rock and Sevendust at Tropicana Field in Tampa. My buddy and I were on the floor, fairly close to the stage but out of pit range. Two idiots decided to expand the mosh pit's range and we started getting the brunt of it. My buddy and I are both pretty good size, but it was getting pretty annoying. Finally my buddy grabs one of the clowns by the back of his shirt and tells him, "you bang into us one more time and I'm gonna beat the **** out of you." Sure as God made little green apples, it wasn't 5 minutes and dummy knocks right into us. My buddy calmly grabs the guy and clocks him good, dummy hits the ground and stays there. I look over and a Hillsborough County sheriff's deputy is standing not 10 feet away watching the whole thing. I figured here we go, I'm calling my wife to come and bail us out. Deputy turns right around and walks away. We figured maybe he's seen everything and decided to let us handle it ourselves.

    Was shocked to realise I actually saw 6 shows this year before lockdown started;
    Anais Mitchell: Roundhouse
Bombay Bicycle Club: Rough Trade East
    The Musical Box: Cliffs Pavilion
Explosions In The Sky: Hammersmith Apollo
    The Who: Kingston Prysm

    but the last one was:
Music For The Marsden: O2 Arena
(with Van Morrison, Tom Jones, Eric Clapton, Nick Mason, Paul Jones, Cat Stevens, Bonnie Tyler, Mike Rutherford etc).
Not a bad way to finish.

October 14th, 2019... seems like a lifetime ago... Starcrawler in a tiny bar in Westport in midtown Kansas City... the kind of space I'd feel uncomfortable in today. At the end of the show, in the crush of people up by the stage where I had located myself, Arrow de Wilde launched herself (covered in fake blood) into the crowd and on top of me and the guy in front of me. A move that in today's era of social distancing that's unthinkable. It was a great show. Starcrawler is a great band. Really had a great time at that show. God I miss live music.
